Best (non-1911) .45

As an off-shoot of this thread (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26023), what do you think is the best .45ACP pistol that is NOT a 1911?
Please don't include the Para-Ord's LDA models as we sort of already established that they should be considered 1911'ish (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28043)

#2 CZ-97B
#3 HK USP
#4 Glock
But all are so very good, it's splitting hairs and personal taste that will effect this list. Some would also say Alchemy Arms should be there as well, but that gun is a little too obscure. If we are doing that, then you might also say the .45 Luger even if there are only 2 or 3 of the originals left and they are over a million bucks a pop.

Glock 30. Because I know it.
Okay, okay, I'll check out the P220!

George: John Martz will build you a .45 Luger (or P-38, for that matter) if you want one badly enough. Cost for either was in the mid-four-figures, last I heard. Not cheap, but way under a million;-) Neil Keller of "Kustom Ballistics" is another artist who could do it. He makes a "Baby" Luger that's superb.
While I like the SIG 220, I'm a southpaw and the controls are too awkward for me to carry one. I personally don't care for the way that the Glock's balance seems to change as you empty the magazine. It's not as pronounced in the 21 as it is in the Mdl. 22, but it's still there.
Don't have any personal experience with the USPs. No ranges with rentals around here, and I don't know anyone who owns one.
I have a CZ 97B that I'm extremely fond of. It has GREAT ergos, and shot as well out-of-the-box as my Big Name custom 1911 that cost me more than 3X the money. 100% reliable with ball as it comes, and five or ten minutes with a felt bob in a Dremel and some jeweler's rouge will make it so with HPs too. Mags are cheap and plentiful. Real hard to match for the money, IMHO.

In my opinion, the best non-1911 .45ACP pistol is a SIG P220.

My choices of those that I have experienced are:
1) CZ-97B, Bought it based on satisfied owner comments, price, quality, 10 round capacity, and reliability. I'm very happy with it. The trigger smooths up nicely with live and dry firing. Not a lot of accesories available, but more forth coming as the gun is gaining popularity.
2) Glock 21, This was the first runner up. About $ 50.00 more O.T.D. than the CZ. Good accuracy, high 13 round capacity for pre-ban mags., and very reliable. The grip just felt a little thicker in the hand than the CZ. Lots of accesories available.
3) Sig, P-220. Excellent gun with the sweetest trigger in the bunch. Kind of expensive new or used. Lots of accesories available.
4) S & W 645. Nice gun. Accuracy was fairly good, and the gun was solid. Trigger was o.k., not as smooth by a long shot as the Sig or CZ. Bought mine used for $ 350.00. For the price it was very reasonable. The current models are kind of pricey NIB. Accesories readily available.

I gotta cast my vote for the Ruger P-90. It's ugly, reliable and will digest stuff that'll make a billy-goat puke!

I like the USP, and I like Glocks, but I have to vote for the SIG P220 as the best, non 1911 .45

Wait a minute. Are you telling me that they make guns in .45acp that aren't 1911s?
Ok, ok, I agree w/ Boats S&W 625.

Sig 220.
If i wanted a DA 45 Autoloader, this would be it.
I like the looks of the CZ but its a very large pistol.

Of the two non-1911s I own, I have to go witht the Sig P-220. As much as I think the USP-45 is a fine, reliable pistol, I just always seem to end up shooting the P-220 and shooting it better.
Purely preference, though. Both have been utterly reliable, quality pistols.

For accuracy, reliability, great ergonomics and a best all arounder..the CZ97 is my recommendation. The Sig is an absolute shooter same with the USP......
Out of the 220's Ive shot and my Sigophile friends....those whove shot the CZ are quite torn...if not coverted. :what:
Shoot well

Why do people keep saying the CZ-97 is so big? It's really not any bigger than a Government Model 1911 and certainly not in the Desert Eagle size catagory.

Well, I don't mind standing out from the pack: G30 is it. The P220 is indeed nice, but my G30 sees much more carry time.
But only because I can't figure out how to stuff thirteen rounds of .44 Special into my Hi Power !!!!!

...but I gotta vote for the Beretta 8045 Mini-Cougar. Only reason it edges a Sig 220 is the recoil-eating mechanism.
I love my Sigs as much as the next guy, but that 8045 ROCKS!

Are you SIG voters talking about the old model or the new stainless model? Just curious. Thanks

Although I prefer the P220ST I think most of the votes were for the standard P220. The P220ST is still relatively new, pretty scarce in many places, and much more expensive in some compared to the P220.
Is it worth seeking out over the standard P220.? The weight is comparable to .45's like a full size 1911 or S&W 4506 so it isn't as carry friendly as the P220. I've got an old frame railed P220ST (frames were from surplus P220Sport models) and the fit and quality is semi-custom like. Field strip it and take a look at the internals. Very different from a standard P220 and as clean looking and robust as a Ferrari V-12 engine. (Okay, I guess my enthusiasm got the better of me :neener: ) And most importantly shooting the P220ST is completely different than a standard P220. I thought the standard P220 was accurate but the P220ST makes me look better than I really am. Or as good as I can be? :uhoh: The P220ST is very tight when new so there needs to be a break in period. But once its broken in its very very smooth.
So anyways, for me absolutely, it is the finest production .45 on the planet.

Sig P220, or if you have $$$ to spend (2x a P220), Smith & Wesson 945
