A local shop has an older ? Sears 200 ? 12 ga pump shotgun; it is among a half dozen or so 'oldy but goody' shotties that the owner has had around a long time and has been treated to a barrel shortening and replacement bead (he's making low budget scatterguns that won't see heavy use); I'm in want of a low budget scattergun and this one appeals to me...I have a Browning BPS for hunting/recreational use and want something else for protection...

what brand/make/model are the Sears 200 based on? are/were they reliable?
(the one I'm considering is mechanically sound, just lacking in the aesthetic department...I'm concerned about parts availability later on)

Not much help here but my source (Blue Book of Gun Values) reports that the Sears Model 200 was made both by Winchester (their model 1200) and Mossberg (their model G4- don't know what this is but I'm sure somebody else does. If it's a Model 500 variant, then you can probably distinguish it from the Winchester by the location of the safety: if it's on the tang it was made by Mossberg; if on the front of the trigger guard it was made by Winchester).
