Yesterday at the range...

I had the same problem TWICE:

Using:

G17
WWB 'Value Pak' Ammo

A round did not feed all the way into the chamber, it was about 1/4" out, which prevented the barrel from rising up to locked position. Also, since it was hanging out, the slide would not rack.

I had to 'force' the slide back, which finally ejected the round, with a horrible dent on the side of the round.

The range guys think I got a bad box of WWB. The other possibility is that I have a lone wolf aftermarket stainless/extened/ported barrel, but have fired thousands of rounds with it using WWB, and never had this problem before.

Just curious, has this ever happened to anyone else?

Had my first jam with a Glock ever on Friday night with the WWB 40, slide rode over the top round in the mag. I have many thousands of rounds down the pipe in Glocks too, I was shocked that it happened. Mine was more than likely magazine related, as the report and recoil were normal. Still, whether it was coincidental or not, the accuracy or more accurately the lack of accuracy I had with the ammo will prevent me from buying it again. It was DISMAL. Not a good value at all considering the performance I got from the ammo.

Can you put up a pic of the round?

Guys, this is why you try all the different brands of ammo you can to find the one that works best in YOUR gun.
You might have two guns that are exactly the same - but like different brands of ammo or loadings. I have a pair of .45s that like Hydra Shoks the best, but one gun likes 185s better and the other 230's. (I don't shoot these guns very much at all - they stay in a safe deposit box with a nice coating of CLP on them)
So you have to find the best ammo. Use that for your defence work and just shoot the cheap stuff for plinking.

If that dent was crescent-shaped just behind the case mouth, it's
called "Stem Bind"...and a couple of things can cause it. If your
gun only does it with the one brand of ammo, it's the ammo's
overall length...usually too long.

The Glock's throat may not produce a crescent shaped dent
the way other designs will, but it will likely be just behind the case mouth.

Seating the bullet deeper will break the asphalt cement seal and
may allow the bullet to seat deeper during the feed...You may be able to
get by with it if you have access to a taper crimp seating die, and apply
a firm crimp as you seat the bullet deeper...but this isn't adviseable.
Pressures will jump when a bullet goes deep.

Cheers!

You barrel has a tight chamber. The round in question was maybe just a little out of spec. This is my hypothesis. If you want to find out for sure, get a 9mm max. cartridge gauge and have it handy when you go shooting. When this sort of thing happens again, drop the round into the gauge. If it doesn't slide all the way in freely, your ammo exceeds maximum specifications. I've had this type of problem with my XD-9.

Maybe the problem is the Glock not the WWB?
I use it A LOT in a Taurus 111 and my Beretta 92 with no feed problems ever. As far as accuracy, my 92 blows the center out of the target almost every time.
I am NOT a Glock hater, just not a fan.
Beretta, there is no substitute.

Sorry I dont have a pic, but I took the two bad rounds to my local gun shop and they measured the case diameter - it appears that they were wider (just by a bit) than any other cases they measured.

So until I get a chance to go back and try more (Of course I bought 10 boxes of the stuff and this happened on box #2) I'm going to believe/hope it's the ammo and not my barrel or gun.

Aren't tight-chambered Glocks a bit like short supermodels, i.e. ain't gonna happen? :D

He states that this was a non-factory barrel. If it was match-grade then chances are the chamber is a little tight.

Perhaps a bad lot. Sounds like you'll get some clearance drills down pat.
