I like the look of my 1858 much better without the loading lever...and I plan on buying another one to cut down to about 4". I can't be the only one who's done this...how do you keep the cylinder pin in without the loading lever there?

You drill and tap a hole through the cylinder pin, and put a small indention in the underside of the barrel for a set screw to catch in.
The problem though, is that changing your cylinder won't be as quick, and will require a screwdriver. Unless you uses some kind of thumb screw for the pin, that is...

Hmmm....well, that seems simple enough. Does the barrel really need an indentation? I would think a screw put in tight would hold without?
Any other non screw options? You're right, it would make reloading slower...

Well, since the screw for the loading lever won't be needed, you could look into having a gunsmith put a spring-loaded cross pin, like on a Colt or Ruger SAA, where it is. You'll be needing another cylinder pin for that little trick though... or to put the cross pin in front of the loading lever screw, and a notch for it cut in the cylinder pin.
Can't think of much else that would work, off the top of my head. Recoil is likely to be an issue with any other method.

A little tap weld on the old cylinder pin could work instead of replacing the whole thing.

Kirst makes a retaining clip for the Remmies, so you can eliminate the leaver.
Perfect! :D I really like that bird's head grip they have there too...hmmm.....
