While installing new grips on my Model 29 today, I noticed something horrible. The red ramp on my front sight was gone.:uhoh: I looked around for it, but my search yeilded nothing. I did a little research and I could not find any for sale. Is my only option contacting Smith and Wesson? How hard is it to install?

It depends on the Era of your revolver. Most of the older S&W's have the staked-in-place front sights. You can find a replacement sight either through Numrich Gun Parts Corp. or through Brownell's. They aren't extremely expensive but if you feel like the project is over your head, take it to a qualified gunsmith.

Agent 86 - Hey dude, sorry to hear about you sight. Brownells lists the following:
Red insert sight, PN 940-000-799 for $31.83
Pin, front sight, PN 940-000-095 for $1.09
Should not be hard to install, just clean and inspect, insert sight blade and press pin into hole. Should be a tight fit. Let us know how it works out.

Dang, what a bummer. :(
Sounds like you're getting some good advice here.
Hopefully it'll be back up and running in no time.
But how are the new grips?
What kind of grips did you put on it?

Thanks for the info guys. I was starting to sweat there for a minute.:( Thankfully, the front ramp has been found. It was on the floor of my bedroom not even close to where I store my guns. At least I can save those $30. I still don't know how it came off, as I do not jerk, sling, or bang any of my guns around. I appreciate the info on where to buy those front sights, though.
Nematocyst: I installed the standard rubber Hogue Monogrips. I can get a better grip on the revolver, and I think it gives the gun a sleeker appearance than the Pachmayrs that were on it before.

Great news on the sight, Agent. Nice job being persistent in looking. I love it when things work out that easy.
I installed the standard rubber Hogue Monogrips. Excellent choice!
I'm a big fan of the Hogues. Will put a set on my 65, which I'm finally
- after a week of delayed client payments - going to pick up today! <cheers>
