A post explaining what is an allowable topic to post?

It seems like half of the post everyday are closed. It doesn't matter if they are gun related or not. Maybe the mods can tell us what to discuss so we can do that?

Crap so this doesn't get closed. What is your HD gun?

I've closed two threads today, to the best of my recollection. It may have been three.

Try this: If it looks idiotic, paranoid or blood thirsty to the casual passerby, it will probably get closed.

This isn't your local range or gun shop, we have a little wider audience than that. IOW, be on your best behavior, we're being watched. (Now that sounds a little paranoid, doesn't it.) :)

A review of the rules, http://www.thehighroad.org/code-of-conduct.html ,should shed some light on this question. Additionally, stickies, such as this one in Handloading and Reloading http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=188346 ,define some of the parameters for specific forums. To the best of my knowledge, there is no list of allowable topics.

Larry, would you be willing to explain to me why you closed the thread about body armor and HD?

Seems like a perfectly legit question to me.

If I fear someone has broken into my home and is armed and I am going to confront them, why is it childish to want to throw on some body armor?

I reviewed the rules posted at the link above for you.

1.) All topics and posts must be related to firearms or civil liberties issues.
2.) Multiple user registrations are prohibited.
3.) As a family-friendly board, we ask that you keep your language clean. If you wouldn't say it in front of your dear old Grandma, you probably don't want to say it here.
Your post appeared to comply with all of that.

4.) Spamming, trolling, flaming, and personal attacks are prohibited.

Give me a break. This forum is for adult discussion of firearms for target shooting, self defense, hunting, collecting, whatever. And when I say adult, I include my 11 year old nephew Josh, who wouldn't start a thread on body armor for HD.

Jeeze.

Closed.

Well maybe your thread was closed since Larry Ashcroft broke rule #4?
Oh wait he's the mod. DOH!

OK, fair question.

We're talking about normal people in a HD situation. They may have a gun, they may know how to use it, maybe.

Do they own body armor? Most likely not. Do you know what that stuff costs?

Can I have a show of hands of the people who own body armor? I don't.

Maybe I'm being too strict, you tell me. But it seems to me that we should be addressing normal SD needs of who may have to defend themselves.

Seems to me that the mission of THR is to get the normal citizen to defend himself the best way he can, with what training and armament he has. And that most likely doesn't include body armor.

I have no idea who you're talking about.

Body armor isn't that expensive these days. Nor is it hard to get your hands on. Nor is it illegal for law abiding citizens. I bet more people have body armor than you think.

As far as the misspelling of your name. Sorry it was an honest mistake.

It wasn't my thread, LOL!

I saw it, but it was already closed.

I do own body armor, 2 pieces in fact, and it never even occurred to me to throw it on quick when I investigate bumps in the night.

Agreed that most people don't have it. I do however think it is topical discussion for a gun forum. Nothing shameful, lowroad or ill-legit about owning body armor.

Formal & respectful request for topic to be re-opened?

Larry, you can move it to S&T if you want. Its not as if we don't already get a body armor thread question in S&T every month . . . Which we do.

Use the search function first. Then, if you still want to discuss it, start it in S&T.

Done. Re-opened and moved.

Wow...diplomacy and an appeals process at work!

Maybe this should be stickied as to how to reasonably request that a closed thread be reviewed.:D

But seriously...the mods are very reasonable dudes and dudettes. If you have a legitimate problem with a thread that is closed, be sure to PM the dude that closed it and make a case for its reopening. As you can see here, it's not impossible.
