FN Police Special

I'm looking at a FN Police Special in .308 and from what I've been reading it looks to be a well put together and accurate rifle, even though it has a chrome lined bbl. Has anybody experienced, read or seen anything negative with these rifles?
Also, it comes with 1 inch rings mounted so I'm on the lookout for a decent scope. This is my first bolt action rifle so I'm not very up to date on what would be best for it. I'll probably be looking for something in the $300 range. Any recommendations?
Thanks

For a scope in your price range, take a look at the Tasco Super Sniper. SWFA seems to have them back in stock now.

I think the Tasco super duper sniper is a 30mm scope.
that being said, i would stay away from it anyhow.
try a Nikon Monarch if you want new.
Sometimes you can get a used Leupold tactical for about that price as well.

If money is limited, I'd suggest spending a bit less on the rifle and a bit more on the scope. Putting a cheap scope on a $1000 rifle is a waste.

I actually got a pretty decent deal on the rifle. It has only 60 rnds fired through it, scope mount and rings and a Harris Bi-Pod for a little over $600. Plus 100 rnds of .308 ammo.
All I need now is the scope.

Oops....didn't realize you said a 1" scope. In that case....spend a few more dollars and get a Leupold VXII Tactical 3x9. The duplex model can be had for about $360.

Weaver Grand Slam 6-20X40. Image is crisp and bright. Low profile target turrets. Around $325. Almost on par with my Leupold VX-III.

Second the Weaver. Lots of benchrest folks use them.

With the Weaver Grand Slam scopes, there are two models in the 6-20X40. One which has a Fine Crosshair recticle and one that has a Varminter recticle. They are both the same price, so which would you recommend as the better purchase?

The fine crosshair reticle is very fine indeed. If I had it to do over again, I'd get the varminter reticle.
