looking for some info on the 8mm-06? how does it stack up to other cartridges? like the 30-06, 8x57, 8x57 handloads (ive heard you can significantly improve this round by handloading) so on so forth. thanks guys, brian.

8-06 and handloaded 8x57 are very close to each other.
if you really want 8mm cool, you need to be looking for an 8mm rem mag.

IIRC, 8mm-06 came about when a lot of 8x57 surplus mauser shooters had a hard time finding brass when those guns started showing up in large quantities. They reamed the chambers to 8mm-06 to make it easier to form 30-06 brass for. It has a little more room for powder than the 8x57, but not significantly so. No commercial ammo is loaded for it, whereas high performance ammo in 8x57 is loaded by Norma, Wolf, S&B, Hornady, and Nosler.
The 325 WSM could also be called the 8mm WSM, but for some reason, "8mm" is a very unsuccessful name in rifle cartridges here in the US, at least from a marketing POV.
