That is the test firearm that was used. The recoil was not bad on this particular weapon - its about the same as a .44 Magnum in a full-size revolver. Kicks-a-plenty, but is easy enough to shoot, such that you can practice with it.

WOW 1300 FPS from a Derringer. Not bad at all.

Bad. Inadequate penetration. Needs a heavier bullet or less expansion or more velocity.

Bullet placement and penetration is all that really matters, if you miss the vitals it matters not if the bullet was .357 or expanded to .6" when it went by. If it doesn't penetrate to the vitals it won't do the job despite good placement.

Placement is your job, insuring the load has adequate penetration is the point of testing, choose the best expander from the set that has adequate penetration (12" minimum), ignore the rest.

11 inchs penetration, no framentation...from a derringer no less...and you call that bad? I would not want to stand in front of that tiny derringer at any distance firing that .357 mag...I can guarantee you that it would just ruin your whole day. Make it the 125 gr. Corbon DPX and you will get that more magical 12+ inches you so desire.

Yeah I don't see how that is bad comign from a Deringer.

You call that no fragmentation? I suppose the magic bullet fairies came along afterwards and added all those big pieces of lead and copper afterwards, just to screw up the photo? And Cor-Bon is just a bunch of liars, and the 68.5 gr recovered weight was the starting weight?

I stand corrected...there was fragging on this...I also saw the lead bullet. No...this was not the DPX all copper bullet...my mistake RyanM. If, however, he did use the all copper DPX there would be no..none, nada fragmentation and a nice all copper expansion as per this: http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/Corbon%20357%20Magnum%20125%20gr%20DPX%20Ammo.htm

According to that, a solid brass or steel .22 projectile fired from a 223 would be the perfect weapon, since it’s accurate and penetrates like there’s no tomorrow. Sorry , but there’s MUCH more than placement and penetration, specially when you consider that perfect placement is HIGHLY unlikely during a gunfight.
A 124 gr. JHP projectile flying at 1400 FPS is hands down one of the best stoppers out there, at least based on real world results, with over 90% one shot stops.
Perfectly aimed brain or spine shots are for Counter Strike players, not reality based gun fighting.
