I am going to Lancaster Penn in a few weeks, are there any museums or BP shops I should stop in and visit?

Joe,
In Lancaster Pa. you are not far at all (30 miles) from the Gettysburg Battlefield.
The Battlefield itself contains some VERY interesting stuff.
Several museums etc. privately owned off the battlefield.
Also a nice Civil War museum in Harrisburg, Pa.
Don't miss this chance.

My family spent four days at the Gettysburg Battlefield. What a place, Do not miss this chance! At the visitors center they have a massive display of Civil War era firearms. many from the battle itself. I thought I knew all about the guns available, heck no, there are so many makes and models. I think Lancaster is the origin of the American Longrifle(Kentucky/Pennsylvania. Wish I had more time to visit there, but had to get back to Iowa for kid's ballgame. have fun,

joe,
At one time at the Visitors Center at Gettysburg, thre was, on display, a Confederate sniper rifle labeled a "Whitmore" supposedly picked up in Devils Den after the battle.
.45 caliber, hexogonal bore(Whitworth) fitted with a brass tube sight , the rifle weighed in at 30 plus pounds.
Interesting piece.
At one time, the Landis Valley Museum had a small but interesting display relating to the early gunmakers of PA.
