$248 a good price on a used S&W M66?

I know the price it's worth will vary on condition but, as long as it doesn't have too many dings and scratches, is $248 usually a decent used price on these?

Oh, and sorry for doing a price check on about every gun I seriously consider.... It's just that considering I'm the resident gun guru among my friends (and knowing what I really know about guns -- that's laughable), I've got nowhere else to turn for good advice except this board.

Next question: What is P&R?

P&R is pinned & recessed.

Prior to 1983ish, the barrels on S&W revolvers were retained with a small pin in the frame through the barrel extension.

Also prior to 1983ish, the chambers on guns chambered for mangum cartridges were recessed so that the case head sat flush with the rear of the cylinder. Not really necessary, but sort of an S&W trademark.

It's still done with the rimfires, where it's more of a safety necessity.

Sounds like a good price on a used 357 to me. In ten years they might be up to a grand.:uhoh:

Well, I stopped by and they didn't have any more used ones in stock. I then went to Sportsman's Wharehouse and they had one new for $429 but that was too much $$ for me right now. After coming home and searching some prices on Davidson's (http://www.galleryofguns.com/gunLocator/gunsearch/Product.asp?Manuf=&item_num=162706&index=11&max=20&start=20&instock=None&manufact_combo=&mod_ser_combo=None&category_combo=None&model=None&g_type=None&act_type=None&finish_type=None&calib_combo=None&sight_class_combo=None&price_range=None&qPromoID=40&EZ=&left_handed=&youth=&item_only=0&oldsql=WHERE+%28unk2+like+%27%251%27+or+unk2+like+%27%252%27%29++AND+PromoID%3D40+AND+ItemID+%3D+Item%23+order+by+manuf%2C+unk2%2C+unk3) and gunbroker.com that looks like it was a pretty good deal for brand new.

Oh well, I'll have to keep saving or look harder for a good used one. I don't have a revolver yet and I like this model.

Just got my SOG flyer for July, and they are offering The 66 for $259.95 in VG condition ($10 for handpick).

$248 seems like a good deal...as you said, depending on condition ;)

I'm glad you posted this as there's a store near me that has about a dozen 66's tagged at $295. They are trade-ins from the Anderson City PD and show some serious wear/scratches that I was sure would bring the price down.

I think I could get one for $190-200....and then send it out to C&S for an overhaul and refinish.
