I took the dog for a walk the other night, and about 30 seconds into the trip
a BANG!! behind me , Instinctivly I reached for my pistol while turning, before
I had the pistol out i realised it was a firecracker, and contiued the walk.
This was about a week after the 4th.

Is that kind of flinching Normal ? What if this happened in puplic with people around. Ive trained to draw at the buzzer. other times while hunting I frequently Practise my draw the instant I think about doing so,

Where I live there is very low crime, so should i desencitise myself from the quick draw, I personaly dont think thats a good idea It could be benifital one day.

I also practise to stay alert and aware of my surondings, but you never no its posible to miss things especialy at night.

That's a good response you have. As long as you recognize what's going on before the gun is actually drawn, I see no harm in trying to undo it. It may just give you a needed advantage someday.

As long as you didn't draw, no harm, no foul. I'd look at it as a test passed...

I was out on my own farm one night right at dusk KNOWING nobody else was around. My dad lives there but he can't walk.

I was near a large red cedar tree with limbs all the way to the ground and you could hardly see through it at all. I saw a LARGE black 'something' coming toward me from behind the tree-completely silent. My CCW jumped into my hand to cover the 'thing'. Turned out to be 2 VERY LARGE feral dogs. They saw me and turned away. I didn't fire as it would have been toward the house about 100 yds away.

Yup. Your reflexes CAN do that to you-SOMETIMES for the good! Just have to be careful though.

Did anyone who shouldn't have see your handgun?

Did you point it at anything you shouldn't have?

If the answer to both is "No", then you did just fine. It's better to process info on the move than stand there and get whatever's coming. Usually.

You didn't actually brandish, so no harm done in what you did, in fact I think its great that you are aware of your perimeter. Its good that you elevated your state of awareness. Being alert and aware is a great combination.
Again, huge difference between brandishing and elevating your alert status. You did the right thing.

You're supposed to spin around and fire wildly! :p just kidding

Sounds like you did fine. I've instinctively reached back there when something like that happens but make sure to fully assess what's going on before clearing leather (or kydex).
That happened to me the day before yesterday too when walking the dog. Someone fired off one of those artillery shells or something. Gets your attention quick.

Well from what I read you reacted, assessed the threat and made the correct decision when you identifed the source of the noise. :) Nothing wrong in getting yourself in the "ready" position. At least you had a reaction that would have enabled you to protect yourself-too many people would have just been startled and stood there flatfooted.

I do the same thing, though my response is likely not as fast as your's due to the fact that I don't really practice it. :) It's instinctual to a degree at this point, somehow. Kinda like how you don't even think about picking up your keys when going out for a drive, or hesitate to pull over when you hear a police/ambulance siren...

Maybe try some decaf in the morning as a compromise? :P
