Im disgusted!!!!!!!!!!:cuss:
Ill call Kel-Tec tomorrow and see what they say.:fire:

I have this very same rifle. Have not had any difficulty with the factory (kel-tec) mag or any aftermarket S&W mags.

If your rifle is indeed a S&W model 59 magazine capable weapon, make sure you are using the right magazine.

A call to Kel-Tec customer support would settle what kind of mag your rifle uses 1-800-515-9983

If you indeed have a S&W model receiver, and are using a S&W model magazine- then the mag catch is most likely broken and you should send the rifle back to Kel-tec. They will make it right.

I have had mostly good experiences with mine, but beware aluminum ammo as an out of battery discharge is possible. I had one and it wasn't fun. Blew the mag out, melt the feed ramp, and rang my bell.

I sent the rifle back to Kel-Tec and they fixed it free of charge.

i have the Glock mag version and i ran into the same problem but mine turned out to be the magazine itself. the notch that snaps into the mag release/retainer had rounded edges. bought a new mag and that fixed it. i seem to be having problems with the Glock mags in general though. seems to be related to the flimsiness of the plasitc mags. the last one pushed the follower up too high and the gun tried to chamber the follower and broke it in half. but hey, what do ya want for $250? its still fun as heck.

p.s. careful with the "Gun Scrubber" it will melt the front sight.

Thanx!
I think the problem is solved.I exercised the mag release about 100 times and the factory Mec-Gar which is all i have at the moment now clicks into place about 95% of the time.I guess from the book that +P ammo is a no-no.I thought these were marked somewhere with the mag type, but if it is i cant find it.

the mag type is on the sticker on the box, but it is not to be found on the gun itself. the Mec-Gar mag is probably not helping matters. if you can, try to find some original S&W mags. Mec-Gar seems to be hit and miss with QC. the origianl 30 round S&W mags can be found at gun shows and such for around $60. (in this area anyway). enjoy the gun, its a kick in the pants to shoot. you'll love it after you get it zeroed. it will cut a 1.5 inch ragged hole at 20 yards. awesome pop can killer!

Bobby

P.S. +p ammo is fine. its even in their ballistics chart in the back of the book. its aluminum cased ammo (CCI Blazer) thats a no-no. stay away from that stuff.

My sister has one of these carbines that uses Beretta mags. She did run into some problems seating the mag initially, but it seemed to be that she wasn't slapping the floorplate hard enough when inserting the mag. I had no problems when I shot the gun, though my own mag insertion technique has been described as "almost abusive in its enthusiasm." In other words, I'm not at all gentle with the gun, and I smack the floorplate pretty hard. I just told sis to whack the mag really hard -- it won't break the gun -- and the problem went away.

Now that you mention it, that was the reason I didn't pick one up at the last gun show.

There was an OD model for a pretty good price that I was interested in. I inserted the mag and I found out that I could pull it out easily. I even tried using a bit more force and questioned the seller about having the correct mag in the weapon since they had several types on display.

I gave up on it after a couple of tries.

Exercising the mag release 293 times before inserting a mag must be the Sub 2000's "fluff and buff"!:D

I had the same slippage problem with exactly one of my aftermarket 20rnd magazines (S&W 59 type). The factory 10, my other 20s and 30rounders all worked so I carefully examined the magazine and found the catch hole height to be just a little off. A few (<10) strokes of a proper file and the mag clicked in positively in the Sub2000 with no movement. Hopefully yours was just a break in problem, but if not, try examining the aftermarket magazines for proper tolerances.

My son bought one. Like the Marlin Camp 9 I had some time back, it used the S&W mags. His doubled on me (and him) several times and had several ftf's, too. The ammo was a 1,000 round box of 20 rord boxes of 115gr FMJ - not +P or Euro, and in brass. I had a couple of 30rd mags for the Camp 9 - suppose they may still be around for that Kel Tec. The Camp 9 was nicer, of course, by far!

He likes the Kel Tec... I wouldn't have it (Recall, I sold the Camp 9, too!).
