well, i am on a 4 day pass here in wilmington NC, and with all the civil war era stuff to explore and look at i got bitten by the gun bug. i was planning on picking up a reproduction 1861 springfield at a pawn shop, but the owner wanted $850 and the bore looked pretty spotted. so i got online and got no further then when i came across the 1860 army.

i spent a few minutes searching replica producers before i settled on the uberti for a suprising inexpensive price. nice to be able to just have it sent to my door. god i cant believe how excited i am about getting out and shooting this thing. i love going to civil war re-enactments (i lived in maryland for a short spell) and it feels pretty cool to own something that is very "similar" to what was used during the civil war.

only downer is that i wont be able to use or even see it until i come back to the US on my 2 week pass sometime in early next year. oh well. i plan on adding a few others (rifles) to the collection before i get back so i can invite some friends and have a good time doin' it like they used to.

Hi Kir, wellcome to the BP club, good choice of gun, that was my first BP pistol. It will shoot a 8or9 inches high, that is normal,so don't freak out when you shoot it.It was made to be dead on at 100 yds.

Spend your time on these forums, and find out all you can about loads and powder, and tools you will need and where to get these items. The best advice I cangive you is to buy a big tackle box,not that one, the bigger one!The one that opens up and has 3trays that fold out on each side. You will buy more pistols and will use all the room with gadgets and tools, you will fill it up.

Stay on line and get your facts straight before you start. You can learn all you need right here and be ready when you get back.

Thanks for all you do!

Shoot me an email.
I have a lot of articles on the care and feeding of cap-n-ball pistols and I'll be happy to email them to you. All of the info in them is safe and easily verifiable. I just happen to have a lot of it in one spot.

Howdy,

I'll second the big tacklebox suggestion. I just picked up a Plano 737 Guide Series. Top compartment can be lined w/foam and holds two full size C&B pistolas. Three sturdy pull out drawers have plenty of room for all the stuff, odds and ends you'll accumulate and the handle is sturdy and cushoned so once you get twenty five pounds of gear in there you'll still actually be able to carry it. Let's see...two C&B pistols, cylinder loader, can of powder, caps, cappers, balls, wads, hearing protection, eye protection, grease, Ballistol, rags, cleaning rods, jags, brushes, patches, screwdriver kit, soft face shorty hammer to knock out the wedge, spare screws, springs and parts...make that thirty pounds or so.

I recommend you get a set of Thunder Ridge Muzzleloading stainless nipples. They fit Remington #11 caps very well. I like using a .454 ball, "Wonder Wad" and 28-30 Gr. FFF Goex black powder or 25 Gr. Triple-Seven sub.

You can buy a five shot R&D conversion cylinder for a little less than two "C" notes and shoot .45 Colt "cowboy" cartridge loads if you want to...

Or you can get some extra cylinders and load 'em up ready to shoot.

Have fun Pard
