GoreTex in Body Armor?

My co-worker and I were arguing over whether or not GoreTex is used in body armor. We were talking about the material itself, not the carrier. He said that they mix it with the kevlar to dissipate heat. Who's right?

Gore-tex is a membrain the permits passage of air but not water .It might be part of the covering of armour but I don't see how it would dissipate heat. Armour is typically made of kevlar or spectra, and is hot in the summer.

Gore-tex is a fabric that allows passage of moisture in one direction only, this is useful in clothes where you want sweat to evaporate away from the body, but not let rain/snow/water in.
It is a fabric only. It may be used as lining, but don't believe that it can be mixed into another material and have any beneficial use.

Gore-tex is Teflon film stretched so it gets micro-pores. Mix it with Kevlar and all you have is a stain-resistant bullet barrier. Six-letter nonsense-word confusion over synthetic materials?

As your freind suggested it is in the carrier not the armor pack. The idea is that the manufacturer uses a recognizable high price, optional material on its carrier. Name recognition - GOOD, High price - GOOD But it doesn't improve the performance much. The Gore Tex is designed to move moisture away from the body. Unfortunately with armor it is moving it away from the body right into multiple layers of material. Multiple layers of screen would inhibit air flow if thick enough. You know what I mean?

I was the one that said it was in the carrier and not the armor pack.

He's nuts. Goretex is to keep you from getting wet. Put on a vest and you'll get wet from the inside out. They're generally hot to wear so you sweat. Better than bleeding.
