I am anxiously awaiting my new gun to come in via my loacal dealer within the next day or so. I anticipate it will be covered in cosmoline and would like to know the best method for removing it as the finish is "black polycoat". I've never owned a firearm with this particular finish (its on a CZ-75B) and would like to know if there are any precautions or particular types of products to stay away from when cleaning and caring for the gun.

Thanks

CZ's will come with a lot of oil on it. Thats it.

No cosmo.

CZ's are heavily oiled because the actions is broken on in a fixture that manipulates the slide back and forth mechanically to assure good function out of the box. You will notice wear in the rails when you take it down. Rest assured... they did the work for you.

So far have not found a solvent that will phase the polycoat.

Fmnnc, I had a CZ40B in black polycoat and ended up with tiny spots on one area where over spray of chlorinated brake cleaner took off some coating. My bad as I was working on something else and not paying attention. :banghead:
