So I got my Uberti 1860 and love it. However I am confused as to what the petruding screws are on both sides of the gun. I have many BP pistols and this is my first 1860 and this is the only BP with these petruding screws on each side of the receiver. My only guess is they are there for some kind of shoulder stock extention? Someone please tell me what they are there for, and if they can at all be removed and the gun still allowed to operate. They are just a tad annoying

You guessed right - they are attachment points for the shoulder stock. You could remove them as they serve no functional purpose other than for the stock.

That would be the 4 screw frame version and yes, the screws are for a shoulder stock. If you remove them replace them with set screws so the yuckies don't get in the frame and keep the shoulder stock screws in a baggie to include with the gun when and if you sell it.

Or buy a shoulder stock for it.......

Thanks, where can I obtain set screws for the gun. And why did Uberti decide to make the 4 screw model only, And not have the option of a 3 screw model. And last question do any of you have the 1860 with this configuration and if you do, do you leave the set screws on or does it bug you like it does to me. :banghead:

Has Uberti stopped making the 3 screw, or "civilian" model? I thought they did make it.

Several retailers still list a Uberti civilian (3-screw frame) 1860 Colt Army in their online catalogs, but Uberti's web site only shows the military (4-screw frame) version. As to why they don't show the civilian model, you'll have to ask them. I don't know if it means they don't make one, or if they just chose to show only the military model for brevity. The web site doesn't say whether they sell just the military version or both; it just has the pictures of the military version with fluted and rebated cylinders.

Dixie Gun Works has screws with smaller heads to replace the shoulder stock screws with. And, no, the screws don't bother me at all... I just don't give them much thought, frankly.

same as J.T here I just shoot the gun never pay attention to the screws.... probably much the same way cavalry officers who I'm sure didn't lay awake at night thinkin bout the stock screws they just used the gun...
