Anyone try this derringer kit? I know the metal will be rough, but I'm most interested in how well it fires, if anyone here's put one together? It is a Palmetto so that is a minus but I've been wanting one of these little derringers and $55 is pretty good if I can get a working one out of it, I don't have the money to spend on a more expensive Pedersoli or such...

Read the reviews of it and judge off of that.

I bought a Philadelphia Derringer (same as Dixie sells) from The Possible's Shop even though most of the reviews were negative. I like it. You will probably get an idea of gunsmithing, stock working, and what it takes to shoot black powder with this, at far less a price than you will find elsewhere.

The Doc is out now.

The reviews of it were mixed which is why I asked, to get some other opinions. I've put together a classic arms pepperbox so am reasonably familiar with putting together pretty rough kits, already have a lot of BP guns. Palmetto simply has such a bad reputation I thought I should see what others have experienced first...

I'd buy ANYTHING but Palmetto if I had the choice.

Before you go with a Palmetto kit (I'm speaking strictly based on hearsay, not hard evidence) call Deer Creek Products at 765 525 6181 and talk to them about the classic derringer type kits. They have several different styles in their 2007 catalog, and a fine reputation (and now I'm talking from experience).

i bought one simlilar to it..the only problem i have with it is the hammer spring is weak..doesnt hit the percussion cap hard enough sometimes..i stretched the spring a little..helped somewhat..but still misfires occasionally
