Will the projected ammo price increase of 15-25% Sept. 1 affect Wolf 7.62x39?

I can't find a definitive answer on the internet, Federal, CCI, Remington, Winchester, all say ammo will go up 15-25% come Sept. 1. If the price of Wolf 7.62x39 goes up 15-25%, that's an additional $30-$40 a case, pretty significant. I probably won't even chance it and order another case in August.:D

I think a variety of factors have come into play all at once to drive up ammo prices:

--cost of raw materials has skyrocketed due to increased demand by china and india.

--transportation costs are up because of the high price of fuel

--domestic production is being diverted to meet military needs because of the war on terror, or Iraq, or whatever they are calling it now.

My guess is that ammo is at an all time low right now. I don't see any of these problems improving in the near future.

The answer is yes.

ammo is at an all time low right now
I dunno about that. It was pretty reasonably priced last year, and a lot better in January than now.

I've run the numbers, and this argument is wrong. Its like 10%, max.

--transportation costs are up because of the high price of fuel

The entire cost of shipping by sea averages about 1% of the cost, and only a fraction of that is for fuel. Shipping by land would be more, but still not that much.

--domestic production is being diverted to meet military needs because of the war on terror, or Iraq, or whatever they are calling it now.

This is the only argument that I've heard that makes any sense. ATK raises its prices... I swear, at my local gunshop, next to every case of Federal and Speer, is a letter from ATK announcing a price increase, as if the owner wants to prove to customers that he's not gouging them...and then the other ammo companies raise their prices in turn.

I think devaluation of the dollar against foreign currencies is a major factor, followed by a circular pattern of paranoia set off by ATK. With every price increase, people freak out and think, I've gotta buy a ton of ammo before the next price increase and so the ammo companies think, hey, that last price increase didn't hurt demand at all, let's try it again.

Ammo is the #1 cost of shooting except for those who buy guns just to have one, not to shoot. This INSANITY has got to stop somewhere. I hope.

This is the second of three price increases scheduled this year. So far things look better than last year. I think scheduled price increases are better than those "surprise" increases that we had last year that were in addition to regular increases.

Time to go spend my Bass Pro Shop rewards on ammo.

It is all getting more expensive...I'm stocking up on reloading componets. As far as the Wolf 7.62x39 ammo, I found some 124 grain FMJ the other day for $3.20 per box of 20 OTD. I bought 30 boxes...since they run fine thru my Yogo AK, perhaps I should get some more.

I believe Lone Gunman is referring to the amount of available ammo and not the price. I would have to second that opinion in that it is becoming amazingly difficult to find military calibers of any manufacture and specifically milsurp ammo. And what is available is now being sold at prices that are starting to match "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous".
