Chinese army decided to do a massive overhaul of infantry weapons, created a whole new family of related rifles and MGs, based on a whole new 5.8mm cartridge. Type 95 was the cornerstone, coming in carbine, rifle, and sniper varieties. Pictured was the carbine. Odd reports I'd heard (from tourists shooting them in China) was that they were far too flexible under recoil, and trigger was squishy with slack. First-hand from samples in Canada, chambered in 5.56 (T97), say those are non-issues.

Possible issue could be placement of rear diopter regarding closeness to the eye, and effect of wandering groups. But people who shoot AR's nose-to-charging-handle (learned that here) probably don't have a problem there.

China has since developed another AK derivative to complement/compete with the type 95, in 5.8mm, due to some dis-satisfaction.

Since Tavors are running $3k with optics, people are hoping 97's run $1k or less with irons. There's some detailed threads on the Canadian Gun Nutz black-rifles forum. You can get Chinese AR15s for $6-700, for example.

The ban on Chinese made weapons was for all weapons. (except shotguns, although that might have changed as well), and all ammo. It isn't a matter sporterizing. And it was by an unconstitutional executive order.

Either an act of congress, or an incoming President could reverse it, or a Supreme Court ruling, but I have a hard time seeing either go down.

I don't think the 2nd Ammendment guarantees you the right to own a specific make of firearm. The order stinks, but if that is the only reason for calling it unconstitutional, I don't agree.

Joe Demco, the executive order could be unconstitutional because it conflicts with some provision of the Constitution (doubtful, as you said), or illegal because Congress has not authorized the President to issue such orders. The President on his own can issue orders regarding the Executive Branch, but I believe he would need some federal delegation of power to allow him to ban foreign goods. Whether there is such a delegation of power I do not know.

It guarantees you the right to own EVERY firearm, hence that catch-all "arms" in the wording. The framers didn't allow for, or want, exceptions or restrictions...which is why that pesky "shall not be infringed" is in there too. Why would they allow for citizens to be limited to certain arms? That sounds like a good way to be tactically disadvantaged when under siege or in combat as citizen soldiers, no?

Practically since we first had a US there have been bans on importing various goods or high import taxes placed on them...usually to protect US manufacturers of those same goods. Has that ever been declared unconstitutional? As I read the 2nd Ammendment, it affirms that you have a right to be armed. Since the word militia is used, we can even go so far as to say that you have the right to be armed with militia-type weapons. I honestly don't see anything there that guarantees you that you should be able to to own arms of any kind from any specific manufacturer or nation.

ow can they be Po'd? They got detailed plans for W-88 warheads for their donations- its pretty hard to beat that deal!

As for the import ban, its not unconstitutional and you can still buy Colts, Rugers, Winchesters and other makes of guns that benifitted from the import ban.
