Your first gun

So how many of you still have your first gun? I'm talking to the people that have been into guns for a while, and have had a few. Maybe the collectors and such.

If you still have your first gun are you glad you have it, for the fact that it was your first not just because it's a good gun.

If you sold your first gun, do you wish you had kept it for sentimental value?

I know it may sound dumb, but I'm just wondering how everyone feels about their first gun. I'm debating selling mine right now so I can get something else, as I can't afford it with out selling the one i have now.

Doesn't sound dumb at all....Mine was a Marlin 39a and I will never get rid of it.

It follows me to the range more often than not.

Don't sell your first gun, its not worth it...You can only have your first gun well, once.:D

BTW, what is your first gun, and what would you be trading it to get...Thats info we need to know.

still have my first firearm. :)

An old, single shot .410 Stevens.

Killed many many beer cans with that old shotgun...and one possum. :)

8 years old. I was tickled because I had something that was just as loud as dad's Winchester 94.

My first gun was an Argentinian Hi Power that I bought a week before the 1994 ban. I got it and 3 extra 13 round mags. I still have it. Its still my favorite pistol that I own.

My first gun was a 1908 Steyr that dad brought back from WWII and finally gave to me a dozen or so years ago. I expect to pass it along to my oldest son. That got me started shooting. My first purchase was a Ruger KP-89. I still have it, because I wouldn't get enough to trade it.

An old Sears (JC Higgins?) bolt actioin 22, with no magazine. I found it in the attic of a house we bought when my dad was stationed in Alska. I learned to shoot with that thing.
we sold it after he left the service, but I have had many many guns since then, No sentimental attatchment to that one.

well this is the problem. Its not really my first gun. It is my first handgun and the first one i bought on my own. My actual first gun and the one i learned on is this old .22 bolt action from Montgomery Ward, and a 20 gage shotgun that my dad bought at a garage sale for $20 for them both! Dad taught me on those when i was around 4-5. And the .22 is mine now. And i taught my girlfriend to shoot with that one. and my mom learned on it too. so that old .22 is the real sentimental gun. IT WILL NEVER GO! plus that thing is accurate as anything else I've ever shot!

The handgun i have now is an XD .45 service in stainless. I love that gun but i was wanting to trade it and $150 for a Springfield Loaded 1911. The 1911 has a black frame, stainless slide, and nite sights. its really nice. I had been thinking maybe i should get a 1911 to replace the XD as my 45. and then buy either another XD or a Glock in 9mm later. partly for cheapness to shoot and partly to have two different calibers. and i just want my "tactical" (lol) gun to be a 9mm rather than a 45.

My first firearm was a Remington 550-1 .22 rifle. I still remember my dad teaching me how to pop soda cans in the woods behind our house. Good times. I'm never getting rid of this rifle. It's not worth much monetarily but it's priceless to me. :)

First gun I ever bought was a Mosin-Nagant M38, and I still have it. I banged up the extractor so bad trying to remove it that it throws empty shells about 4" instead of 4', but I still have it. Then I stuck the stock in the dishwasher because I heard it was the thing to do on the internet. Now I've got a Mosin with about half the shellac melted off and a diswasher with a top rack that never went back in right. That poor gun did nothing to deserve such treatment, but I'm glad I had it to do stupid stuff with instead of a more expensive one.

remington 510 targetmaster in .22lr. When i got it from my grandpa, the stock was in sorry condition, so we sanded it and refinished it. Still have it now about 10 years later. Pretty accurate little thing. IIRC i traced it back to being made in 1947. Almost forgot to add, it was the gun my dad learned to shoot on.

I still remember my first gun. It was a used Winchester Model 67 with a cheap Lyman 4X scope on it. It was given to me by my younger brother and where he got it I have no idea. It was a sweet shooting rifle and it somehow disappeared during my college and army days. Sure would like another some day.

First gun, Marlin Model 60 which I still have (bought it about 7 years ago). I only still have it because it never would have brought much money. When I first started, I didn't have very many guns and I was inpatient. Now, I can be a little more patient since I have a few. I'm glad that Model 60 wasn't worth enough to justify selling because now I would never let it go- it is accurate, reliable (with CCI) and fun, and yes it is my first (though no sentimental "my grandfather taught me on it" or any such story).

First handgun, a Taurus 82. I really wanted a .357mag, but it was my first handgun so sticker shock got me. I found a decent used Taurus 82 (a .38spl) and decided to go with that. It was a good, if basic, gun (newer 82s are better made, this was really a solid, but very basic gun with a so-so trigger at best). I wish I still had it*

First auto pistol, a Ruger KP89. I missed it for a little while (mostly because it was my first of a type) but I really don't miss having it. I sold it to help me buy something else. I was in the market for a CZ, Kahr or Glock, but got bit by the 1911 bug and bought a Charles Daly.

*Back when I first started I didn't think I'd have many guns. 2-4 handguns was about it (and no more than 5 or 6 counting long-guns). Possibly just one auto and one revolver, maybe one service pistol, one service pistol, and one or two smaller guns in different catagories. So, I had already bought my S&W 65LS and had a mid-size/service revolver in .357mag (which can also shoot .38spl) and didn't see the need for the mid-sized/service revolver in .38spl (the Taurus 82), so I sold it (helped pay for the Charles Daly). It makes be feel especially bad to be without my first handgun when I consider the stupid reason I sold it (especially since I have more than 2-4 guns today).

I still have my first real gun... it's a Winchester Model 94 in 30-30 that I bought with my own money when I was 12. It's nothing fancy, but it's taken plenty of deer over the years and I'll never sell it.

I also have my late father's first gun. He bought that Marlin 39 .22 when he was a kid, and someday I'll pass them both on to my daughter.

I don't sell guns. If I didn't want it, I wouldn't buy it. :D

My first was a Yugo M48A. In retrospect, my first choice should have been the last rifle I bought, a Marlin 981T. But plinking with a .22 probably wouldn't have interested my at the time. Damn if it ain't a cool rifle.

I bought my first rifle at Kmart, a Savage Arms 954 .22 rifle. I bought it on layaway and I belive it was $89. When my mom saw it she gave me two shotguns that had belonged to my father, a Topper 20ga. and a Western Auto Supply 410ga.

I don't use the shotguns but I shoot the Savage at 75 100 yds. It shoots much better than my 10/22.
My collection has grown and I've traded here and there over the years but I'll never get rid of these three firearms.

My dad gave me a Crosman air pistol, Benjamin air rifle, and a single shot .22 rifle.

The first I bought was a Colt AR-15 because Bill Clinton was being an idiot and I was only 19. So all the stupid AWB did was put one more "assault rifle" in the hands of a "child" because I was too young to be trusted with a handgun.

My Dad bought me a used Stevens "Springfield 120" .22 single shot bolt action rifle for $12 or $12.50 when I was about 11 or 12. It's the most accurate iron sighted rifle I've fired. It has a very thin front blade sight. I've never sold a gun.

At age six I inherited this rifle and only shot while being under the watchful eyes of the adults in the family.
In later years , I carried the rifle on my trapline using it one day to kill a very large Canadian goose.

My first gun was a used Marlin Model 70hc that my Dad bought for me at a gun show when I was 12 years old, which was 20 years ago(wow, time sure flies!). Unfortunately, that rifle turned out to be a jam-o-matic. We took it to a gunsmith and he said he couldn't fix it because the receiver was warped:eek: He offered us $50 for it to use as a parts gun, which coincedently was exactly what my Dad paid for it at the gun show, so we sold it to the 'smith. We then went straight to a gun shop and put that $50 towards a brand new Ruger 10/22 which I still have.
