Turkish, Romanian, Yugoslavian, FN Belgian? On strippers for use in a Yugo M-48.

Not expecting "match grade" but decent quality for cheap.

I've had pretty good results with the Yugoslavian and Romanian stuff. The Turkish ammo I had was full of hangfires and duds.

ojibweindian, I've heard some bad stuff about the Turkish. I was hoping what I'd heard wasn't true..... because the Turkish stuff is DIRT CHEAP!

You said you tried out the Romanian and Yugo ammo........ preference??

I've shot literally thousands of rounds of turkish and with the exception of a handful of loose bullets, I haven't had any problem. Stuff is corrosive as all get out tho'

I got some Turk at our Dunhams and had a lot of split necks. I always gently twist the bullet to see if any cracks appear. Good Turk ammo is loaded hot and is actually accurate.

I got a box of Yugo from Cole Distributing that is nice. Sportsman's Guide once sent me a case of Ecudorian that looked really bad. After some arm twisting on the phone, they took it back because the catalog said Yugo.

As for inexpensive hunting rounds that are full strength, Natchez has S&B from the Czech Republic that has beautiful brass and soft-point bullets. You could probably down a moose with their delayed expanding bullet.

I have shot 2000+ rounds of Turk of several different years the 1939 was the best, the 1947 was the worst. I have shot 1000 rounds of Equedorian wasn't impressed, 1000 rounds of Yugo not bad, and have shot 250 rounds of Greek 1938 the best so far. very accurate and the Turk would be the second in accuracy.

Because of the cheap 8mm ammo and my luv of the FN49 I have purchased both within the last year. But the recoil from the Romanian 190+ grain bullet even in the gas operated FN49 limits my plinking enjoyment, after about 50 rounds from the bench I'm pretty well beaten-up. I have been looking for a Hakim for a year now because it's about the only 8mm rifle that will soak-up the recoil and permit me to fire dozens of rounds with relative comfort. If I ever locate one at the gun show, I'll buy several thousand more rounds of 8mm. Turkish ammo will do fine, it seems to me that the degree of corrosive ammo matters little, you still have to clean the rifle when you are done.

I've heard both good and bad about Turkish 8mm; my actual experience was bad. The Yugo and Romanian ammo I've used in my Yugo M48A has not, as of yet, given me the willies. My rifle prefers the Romanian that I have in stock, giving me about 2.5 inches with open sights at 100 yds. The Yugo stuff gives around 3.0 - 4.0 inches.

I must say that the Turk stuff, when it worked, was really accurate. I just can't deal with hang fires.

Change the firing pin spring to a 30# and you will not have any more hang fires.
