The California CCW fight: SAF is in play!

All: I've been doing as much as I can on a shoestring.

That's ending.

The Second Amendment Foundation is jumping in. With both feet.

My role is basically as a "local guide to the territory" - I know which agencies are the most screwy and hence the best targets, I know a lot about "where the bodies are buried", and I'm helping identify key minority plaintiffs.

As an honorary member of CFAC (the open government reform group led by journalists) I have access to their help in challenging public records requests.

SAF is bringing money, contacts with lawyers, David Kopel's help with "gameplan issues" and the like. Historian Clayton Cramer is signed on for research and expert testimony on gun control racism (and he'll soon, finally have the title of "professor" he should have had years ago.

Instead of creating a new financial structure, we're going to run the whole program on SAF's books, for a lean, mean, no-overhead machine yet with the tax deductible advantages of a 501(c)(3).

The details on this program are up now:

ALSO:

AB1044 is up for reconsideration. Like some shambling zombie corpse straight out of a Romero flick, this thoroughly discredited piece of "junk legislation" has risen from the grave and is stumbling around. Check the AB1044 page:

http://www.equalccw.com/ab1044.html

...for RECENT updates, and contact the Senators one more time.

We need to stop this bill. If we don't, we'll have to stop it in court by seeking an injunction against it in Fed court. While success is fairly likely, it'll tie up resources and time we don't need to spend if we kill this ugly puppy NOW.

Jim:

Good on ya, mate! ! ! !

You have been running this war pretty much on your own. Nice to see you getting some major support.

More power to you AND the SAF! I would not want to be in your crosshairs!

Anything we can do at this point Jim?

All: I've been doing as much as I can on a shoestring.

I feel like I've gotten a lot more bang for the buck in the money I sent you than in some of the bigger organizations (which shall go nameless here :) ).

That's what I said, too.

And here's one for that nameless organization... :neener:

Jim,

I'm looking at my finances now and figuring out how much I can send to SAF for this project.

Thanks for the good fight.

Thanks, all.

Two things: donations to SAF specifically for the California CCW reform effort will help Alan Gottlieb sell major involvement with the SAF board of directors. See also instructions here:
http://www.equalccw.com/ccwreform.html

And calling the six senators on the Senate Safety Committee asking them to kill off AB1044 helps a LOT - go to the bottom of this page for contact info:
http://www.equalccw.com/ab1044.html (main talking points: the bill destroys public records, and Randy Rossi lied to the committee about the records being available locally)

Making sure AB1044 stays dead is important. If it passes, we'll have to go to court to get an injunction against it. SAF resources aren't unlimited - the resources of an entire lawsuit are far better spent on an equal protection suit with a minority plaintiff versus messing with AB1044. We'll do that if we have to but a few phone calls now would be the equivelent of a bunch of $100 donations to kill it in court. FAR more cost-effective to kill it now.
