Road Trip completed, OC'd in 5 states...

I'll try to keep this brief as the trip had so many stories I could probably write a novel. Basically, my wife and I travelled from California through Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. We visited yellowstone (bear paw prints on the 4runner), toured an ammo plant in SLC, and I open carried my XD throughout the entire trip (excluding CA and Yellowstone). Here are my reports as to the public opinion of open-carry:

In Nevada, no one batted an eye. When I entered a gas station at 3am, the woman behind the counters gave me a "are you gonna rob me?" look, but after I smiled and went for the coffee counter, she didn't care.

In Utah, no one cared. I talked to a forrest ranger who directed me to the best places to go shooting "because of the view"... :)

In Wyoming, I'm not f*cking kidding. There is a subaru forrester in Afton wyoming with a .50 Ma Deuce mounted to the roof of the car! I felt so free just seeing it parked in the drive way.

In Montana, a couple guys grinned at me, then asked why I carry such a small pistol...

My only concern was yellowstone. I talked to a ranger who said that firearms can be transported in a car, but can not be used or carried within the park (which was expected). My problem was that the same ranger identified the paw prints on my truck as a 4 year old black bear that had been frequenting my camp for 2 weeks.... Needless to say, I didn't OC but I wasnt far from my sidearm while sleeping...

Long story short, I drove nicely, left the finger at home and had zero problems packing through 5 states. I think America is getting back to it's roots, all we need to do now is build a wall around California (similar to the berlin wall) and hope the few pro-gun people in the PRK will out-breed the antis...

On a side note, some of you may have seen my plans about moving to Montana and opening an ammunition plant. I applied for my house last Friday, and as soon as I have a MT state ID, I will be applying for the business permits. I'll update my old ammunition plant thread soon...

Well congratulations, Im very happy that your trip was trouble-free, and very glad to hear that most people werent put off or scared by seeing somebody carrying. It's definitely good news.

You forgot to tell us how many times your gun was snatched from the holster and how many bad guys shot you first.

If you could fill in those details, I'd appreciate it.

Sounds like a great time Brig. I have pretty much turned into a full time OCer within the last month. Now if we could only go to NY and Chicago with the same results.

DJAte- zero and zero. Not quite sure where you're coming from with those questions.

To the rest, the best way to spread the open carry legality is to do it where it's legal and be polite when people talk to you about it. I did get a few people on the trip who asked why ("Are you a police officer?", etc.) and I told them it was for protection as well as to preserve the time honored right of self protection. Most people were pretty receptive.

Most of these states never left their roots. All we need to do is keep out the noxious weeds ;)

Where in MT are you going to put in a ammo plant? There's a lot of small communities that need some sort of light industry. If kids don't stay and work on the family farm/ranch there is basically nowhere to work and they have to leave the area and/or state.

It's a joke. DJ is spoofing the fact that those who are adamently opposed to open carry never fail to advise us that people who open carry will either have the gun grabbed, or will be shot by an armed robber as a preemptive strike to eliminate armed resistance.

Sounds like a great time. Wish I could OC in FL, for as laid back as we are down here about guns I'm surprised we can't.

That's hilarious.

When I read the thread title I thought you got a face full of pepper spray (Oleoresin Capsicum) in five states and wondered how hard you'd have to try to achieve that. :p
