Feg Smc

I'm getting one on Saturday at my gunsmith's shop. I always wanted a PPK but price held me back. Spotted the SMC and checked it out. Seems well made, did a search online and found favourable reviews. Any updated opinions from people here who own them, I'd like to hear them. Price is $140.

I have an SMC-918,and it's an awesome gun.You can get some fantastic grips, too. There's a guy named Dennis Marschall that makes exotic wood grips for them. The third set down on the right are the pair he made for mine... http://www.marschalgrips.com/?content=FEG-models

Scratched the itch I had for a PPK at a lot lower price. Mine has been reliable and a fun little gun. Hard to go wrong for that price!

I believe the SMC is pretty much a commercial version of the Hungarian R-61 and RK-59. Pretty much the smallest 9x18 out there, not certain if there is a smaller .380ACP or not. They are very practical for pocket carry, but not a lot of fun to practice with.

Parts availability is another issue. Some Kassner parts might interchange, but there isn't a great deal of info available to determine exactly which parts wll. KBI in Harrisburg, PA has a few parts, including magazines, for the SMC pistols, but their phone number isn't published anywhere. I found it on a gunbroker auction for an SMC manual, the picture just happened to show KBI's parts line phone number. Mags for the SMC-380 ran $20 + $10 to ship.

The SMC I'm picking up TOMORROW ( sorry, gettin' excited ) is the .380 model. It fit into my jeans pocket pretty decent. Hope it shoots well, sold my Bersa to buy it. I liked the Bersa but it became a locker queen after I got my 232. Then I'll have a .380 for all my needs, CZ83, Sig 232, FEG pocket gun.

Had the new pistol out last night and it shoots better than my Bersa! Not saying the Bersa is bad, but any new gun that I can make a fist sized grouping at ten yards on the first try is awsome. Double action is harder than I'm used to, but I'll see what about 500 rounds does to it. Single action isn't bad. Took a better look at the finish, I almost don't want to carry it. Beautiful blued, mirror finish to the slide. I'll check into some wood for it at Marschall's site to complement it. Nice pocket piece indeed!

Good to hear you like it. I have the FEG SMC 918 and I have a hard time hitting anything with it. I loaned it to a champion shooter friend and he had the same problem. I've talked to guys across the country who have had a hard time shooting it accurately.

It was the smallest of the 9x18s imported, and I believe it's too small to import by current standards. I believe the problem I have with shooting it is the fact that the grips are so small - both in width and length. It would be better suited for someone with smaller hands.

But for close-up, it's a fine and handsome pistol.

They say a set of Wolf springs tames them down quite a bit.

I've been putting off ordering one. May need to do that.

You did very well...the SMC is just the shorter grip version of the PMK. One less round and a more streamlined outline. Any PPK/PPKS holster will work for them and mine worked very well for in pocket carry. Mine was a shooter also.

Very nice guns.......I shot a 9x18 years ago and should have bought it. Kick myself everytime I think about it.

Shoot well and god bless

I have one in 380 and 9x18 both very accurate and fun to shoot, double action trigger pull is very stiff but can be tuned. I have wood grips and have not experience any problems with either pistol.

Accidentally ran across a used FEG SMC-380 at a local gun store. They took it as a trade-in tagging it as a 'JUNK' gun.:uhoh: Even though I was not familiar with FEG, I found the size and general appearance to my liking. I took a chance at $139 with no sales tax due to being used. Cleaned it up real good then put 50 rounds through it. For a pocket pistol I found the accuracy at 20 foot acceptable. Of the 50 rounds I did have 4 casing eject failures. The feed ramp does need polishing and I noticed several casings swelled. This will need some work but for the price a good buy! The blued finish on the slide is very nice, but the frame will need to be refinished. KG gunkote will do the trick, but not until I've improved the reliability. Anyone with experience with this model have any suggestions?:D
