Would you get this slide refinished? This is how I bought it. Paid 350 for it. Shoots great, but not too pretty. Would you send it to colt? Suggestions? Thanks

That is sorry, sad, heart-breaking and a basic inspiration to kick the tar out of the negligent previous owner. No pistol, not even a defensive pistol, should look like that! :(
Please, return it to Colt and ask they they reconstitute the beauty within. For what it's worth, thanks for saving it.

Thanks for the reply doc. I think this is a nickle finish??? Should I send the whole gun in or just the slide?

The whole pistol...get her refinished. She's a beauty deep down. They can strip the finish, they refinish the surface, even re-roll the marks. Finally, I would have her hard-chromed. JMHO.

What do you want to do with this pistol? That might dictate which (if any) finish to choose.

Both nickel and chrome look the same. Nickel comes in at about 50 in hardness and chrome comes in at about 74. Both will hold up for years and are attractive. Both cost about the same, and so I would go with chrome...the more durable. Just a hint, you can have the rounds left natural dull appearance and have the flats polished like STS. That costs about $30.00 additional at Cobra Chrome (Tripp Research):

What did they do to that poor thing? It looks like it rode in the back of a truck in the rain for a few months or something.

Wow, I just noticed that is a genuine Series 70!!! Oh you lucky, lucky person. You need to put on a set of genuine Colt grips. :)

Looks like a blued pistol that some twit wanted to look like SS. Either have the whole thing reblued or have one of the newer finishes put on. Industrial hard chrome, Duracoat etc. You could have it parkerized too.

This is just a range gun. It is a great shooter. I know it doesn't look very good, but it shoots everytime I pull the trigger. Even in the shape it is in, I thought 350 was a good deal. I am not too familiar with the different finishes, was thinking of going with what was original, which I thought was nickel.

Shoot it and enjoy, leave the finish alone

Colt prices are 325 for hard chrome, and 125 for roll marks. Looks like for now anyway I will take Brian's advice and just shoot and enjoy it. Maybe later I can invest in a new finish. That's 100 more than I paid for it. It's just hard to look at.

Agreed. Too much. Cobra Chrome would be about $210.00 and I think $25.00 or $40.00 for stripping the old finish. Even that would be a lot! What is worse, Colt does not do its own hard chroming. They send it out, which means they are simply passing on cost such as shipping and perhaps adding some profit.
