What Makes Makarovs So Accurate?

Oops, the Ruskie Mak did it again, it shamed pricier SIGs, Glocks, Berettas and even a custom shop SW 686 with its superior accuracy.

Could it be the fixed barrel? But if that's the reason why isn't a buddy's SIG P232 as accurate?

Could it be the ammo? But it's as accurate no matter the brand used.

Could it be the trigger? You're joking right?:p

I think it's the borsch.;)

I think its the fixed barrel and the fact that its built solid as a brick.

And the single action trigger on my Bulgie is sweet.

But other models with fixed barrels aren't as accurate.

Mods-Sorry for double posting. Please merge the threads.:)

Fixed barrels have something to do with accuracy (though not as much as most folks think) when a gun is fired from a ransom rest.

In a person's hand, suddenly other factors come into play: trigger, sight radius, ergonomics, slide-to-frame fit (ie: just because the barrel's fixed doesn't mean the sights are pointing in the same direction every time if there's slop in it...)

Then there're the other parts of mechanical accuracy: chamber dimensions, barrel quality, barrel crown, performance of a given load in the gun...

Perhaps you and your Mak just get along well? What kind of group did it shoot?

Maybe you could go hustle some money at bullseye matches.

"What Makes Makarovs So Accurate? "

Maybe the 9mm Makarov caliber is just inheriently (spelling?) more accurate than other calibers? I'd say it's the fixed barrel but if it out-shoots other pistols with fixed barrels then it must be something else, or maybe a combination of something elses...

Well, lieutenant Chekov from the original Star Trek would probably tell you that it was "Superior Russian technology".

I think a quality fixed barrel is the key.

Chrome lined fixed barrel( I know most will say chrome doesn't make a difference) the mak just loves lead reloads.!!!!!

It is the fixed barrel. How do I know? If you can shoot a Walther PP Series and you are a good shot it is just as accurate. What do i mean? The Makaro is a variation of the Walther design. Regards, Richard:D

How do we know that the other shooters weren't just lousy shots?

I think its those great Makarov sights! They are just so easy to see. (yeah right)

My Maks always amaze me with their accuracy. I would say its the fixed barrel also, but don't know why Sig 232's aren't as accurate. I have a P-08 Luger with even crappier sights than the Mak that is also very accurate. The fixed barrel does help.

I'm going to say the shooter probably can take the majority of the credit here.

A few weeks ago, two new gun owners took their weapons out to Kcustom45's range. One had a 5 shot Charter Arms .38 snubby and the other a SIG P220. The snubby outshot the SIG every time, but that doesn't mean that it is inherently more accurate ... just fit the shooter better.

Despite the poor trigger pull and the decidedly minimalistic sights, I think that the Makarov points quite naturally.

Other than that, the fixed barrel probably has something to do with it. Above and beyond that, I dunno, magic?;)

Maybe you could go hustle some money at bullseye matches. They aren't THAT accurate. sheesh. I'll take a semi-custom bullseye 1911 over a Makarov for accurate shooting any day. But I do think that the Makarov has excellent accuracy for a gun of it's size.

Must not be the 9mm makarov round, mine is in .380acp and shoots great!

At 7 yards the Ruskie Mak gets four inch groups. I know that nothing for some folks but considering the tiny sights it's not bad at all.

My blind wheelchair bound grandmother can throw rocks with better groups.:D

I reload and due to age do my test from the bench , about 2inches at 15 yards
with my maks is pretty standard.

In old honesty the mak is just about as accurate as possible with such a short
sight radius. Never seen an in-accurate mak in the 20 or so I have fired.

Maks kinda remind me of a quote that Skeeter Skelton had in a review of one of the first Dan Wesson .357s.

He'd loaned it out to a local ranch hand to try, When the fella ran out of free ammo and brought it back, Skeeter asked him what he thought of it.

He said: " Wal, she ain't the purtiest thang I ever seen, until you pull the trigger. Then she gets beeyootiful!"
