BERETTA OWNERS,
I have a Beretta 92 F Inox and I am seeking some defensive rounds to feed it. Any suggestions? And yes -- money is an object - at least when it comes to practice. I usually just feed it FMJ. But I need something good for home defense.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Amadeus, in hollowpoints I have had good experiences with Federal Hydra-shoks and Remington Golden Sabers. Both companies make different weight bullets to suit your preference.

Both my 92 Centurion & my inox 92fs like the Hyrda Shoks.

At more than $2.50 a pop, I've read those Ranger XLT's in 127 and 147 gr are right up there in man-stopping stats.
But us paupers can't be choosers, so I use the Fiocchi 115 FMJHP's instead. These babies zoom at 1250 fps, and I've read at ammolab these were independently tested to expand up to 0.60"++ in ballistic jello.
Not bad for a $0.40/per defensive round... ;)

There are any number of good defensive rounds available for the 9mm. Both the Hydra Shoks and Golden Sabers are very good along with the Speer 124 grain Gold Dots. These can be purchased in either +P or standard pressure loadings. I currently load my Centurion with the standard pressure variant. I would definitely recommend either 115 grain or 124 grain rounds in whatever brand you purchase. Another excellent choice and the best value that I know of is the Winchester whitebox 115 grain hollowpoint sold at Walmart. These have tested out extremely well for reliability and expansion. Best, Mike

I use Speer 124 grain Gold Dots +Ps in my Beretta 92fs. They can be had for about $14 for a box of 50. Hydra Shoks are my favorite but the price is very high.

$2.50 a pop for 127gr. +P+ Rangers????? I don't think so! More like $0.40.
Yes, they are the best of the best. Better than Golden Sabers or Gold Dots.
I love the .357 and .45 Golden Sabers, but for some reason the 115gr. 9mm +P Golden Sabers strike me as fragile looking.

A Beretta should feed just about anything you stuff into it, so reliability shouldn't be an issue. However, you will still need to test whatever you choose for your defensive ammo, budget issues or not. After all, how much is your life worth, anyway?
I don't use any service-sized 9mm's for defense, but I do carry my Kahr P9 on a frequent basis. I normally use Remington +P Golden Sabers. Don't forget Winchester Silvertips either, which can sometimes be found for a good price. Not matter what, stick with 115gr or 124 gr ammo, NOT 147gr stuff (no matter how cheap it is).

Doh!
Forgot to mention, it costs that way where I am...
as in the other side of the Pacific ;) :D
For comparison, Hydrashocks and GS cost about $2 per...

Sorry I took so long to chime in, seeing as how the thread specifically addresses Beretta owners. Next time put this in the topic heading.
Beretta will feed anything even in a cocktail (mixed rounds) magazine. I currently carry Winchester Silvertips 115gr. and SXT 147 gr. in my magazines. For the ultimate carry round go with the Corbon 115gr. +P, the long barrel Beretta pushes it to dizzying speeds.;)

In 9mm, Remington 124 gr Golden Sabers are my favorites, in either standard or +P. The recoil seems less than most others. Even the +P has very little recoil in my Kahr K9. Plus they seem to have much less muzzle flash as well.
Hydra-Shoks have excessive muzzle flash.

if you want cheap JHP's check out www.ammoman.com they loose packed gold dots for $109/500rounds. pretty good! i like gold dots too. i keep my little Kel-Tec Sub 2000 stuffed full of them. the recoil from the 115 grainers is lighter than the Fiocci 115 grain stuff i usualy shoot for fun.

I use winchester white box 9mm FMJ 100rnd value packs for target ammo(availible at walmart and sports authority). For affordable S.D. ammo I would get winchester personal defense 147 gr JHPs (plain vanilla but effective and cheap box of 50). For carry load shell, out the bucks for some Golddots at a gunshop. Test fire a few and carry the rest. FWIW

I use Hydra-Shoks, too. They're not too expensive and are plentiful at about any gun shop. And, yes, they do flash good at dusk!

I swear by ProLoad's 124gr +Ps.
Corbon's new Pow-R-Ball ammunition has been getting some good reviews, but I haven't tried any of it yet.

When in doubt, Winchester 127gr +P+ if you can get it.

Sounds like my choice of ammo is about as subjective as my choice of sidearms, cars, girlfriends, and ice cream. As long as I choose a quality brand hollowpoint then I should do just fine. Is this what I am hearing from everyone?

pretty much yes, amadeus.

I like 124gr +P Gold Dots. Why? Because most of the dealers around here usually keep the 50rd boxes in stock at reasonable prices. :)

When I was shooting alot of 9mm, I had the luck to get the Win. 127gr +P+ goodness for about $15/50. I've seen the same stuff being auctioned for as much as $40/50 lately...
:what:
If you can find a good deal on it, get it, and not just because it is hyped as "the greatest 9x19mm ammo ever." The stuff is really hot, really accurate, and has zero flash in my experience actually shooting it.
Otherwise, just about any 124gr +P load would be a good choice IMHO.

I'll second the CorBon 115 +Ps. I started using these after years of 124 Godl Dots and Hydra Shoks. Not that there is anything wrong with GD or HS. I am just addicted to speed. :)
