Shotgun Shooting age for Virginia?

I recently went to a Bull Run Shooting Center to shoot my new shotgun, and plenty of ammo.- I had been planning a trip since I was 17, but my parents would not go with me. So I turned 18, waited 1 week, than planned a trip,
but today they told me I could not shoot unless I had a adult, which was 21 or older to take responsibility for me.
I am a very self proficient adult, even though I had just turned 18,
I have worked since I was 15, bought my own vehicle, and currently looking to rent a apartment.- So, I believe I am well enough responsible to shoot a gun,-
Buy Ammo.... Buy Gun..... cant shoot???
Any reason why this may be true?- Please help me out... I would hate to have to wait until I am 21 just to shoot a shotgun at a range.

That must be the club's policy. Go somewhere else or attempt to personally contact the club's president/owner and mention your situation. They SHOULD be willing to work with you, as they dont want to scare off young shooters (if we dont shoot, the sport will eventually die). You can legally own and shoot long guns at 18. Handguns are 21. I highly doubt there is a state law that would prohibit you from shooting while allowing you to purchase.

Go to a different range, or maybe make some ruckus and get the policy changed. I'm 19 now, and since I was 18 have been shooting at ranges on my own. Now that I think of it, no one even asked to see if I was 18, just assumed or didn't care.

pistol, I don't know if you found my reply to this thread in L&P, so here it goes...
I'll be going there today, as they are open 9-5 and see what's up, but something that has changed since I first started going there is that if you've never shot clays before, you need to take a class there on it. PM me if you want to go shooting there sometime.
Secondly, it's an NVRPA range for those that aren't familiar with it.

In VA you can also own handguns at age 18...you just can't buy them from an FFL. The local indoor range I belong to requires you to be 21 to shoot there. You can be any age if you're accompanied by a parent.
So it's just the range's policy...not a law.
