I am currently waiting on a 629 revolver (240 hr CA cooling off period). I have always wanted a big shiny revolver, so the 629 seemed like a good choice. It is a 8-3/8 inch barrel, with an adjustable rear sight. As soon as I get it I will want to start messing with it. What things have you done with a 29 or 629? I would love to see pics. Can you add scopes or dot sights to the models without ribs? Mine is coming with wood grips, I was going to put the Hogues on it. Any ideas appreciated, this gun could be a range toy, or maybe do some hunting some time. not sure yet.

If it is a 629 no dash it is very collectible and you should think before modifying it. If it is a -1 to -3 it will have to be drilled and tapped for a scope. One exception to this are the limited production -2s with integral scope mounts, but they are rather scarce. If it is a -4 and newer it will be factory drilled and tapped.

Also, be sure to keep the wood grips that come with it, if they are S&W factory grips. The wood target stocks that come on the 629 feel awful (JMHO, of course) but they are worth a few bucks.

Here's a pic of my 29 Classic.

I had it hard chromed, a ball bearing detent in the crane, muzzle crowned, Mag-Na-Ported, 11 degree bevel forcing cone (I shoot cast only) and of course a green insert replaces the red.

Hogues for me, but grips are subjective. Hogues fit my hand.

I'll also kick in a picture of my 629-3 3" that was converted from a 8 3/8".

For the 3", there are twin ball bearing detents on the crane, muzzel crown, 11 degree bevel in the forcing cone and Trijicon sights.
