Just had to share this latest addition to my Colt collection. A Police Positive in 38 Special with a 4" barrel. I believe this is called the Third Generation model because of the shrouded ejector rod? Don't see too many in this configuration. Anyway, it was made in 1977 and is in like-new condition. I wouldn't be surprised if it was test fired only.

For now it's a safe queen along with some other Colts in the same condition.

Neophyte1, thanks for the compliment, but the gun is just that nice. I'm not very good with a camera.

Can you use +P ammo in it?

Matt, this gun uses the same steel frame used in the Detective Special. IIRC, both guns are rated for +P.

Sweet! How does it compare to the S&W Model 10?

Very similar in size and weight. Many years ago, in the days before the hi-cap 9mm, the Colt Police Positive and the Smith Model 10 were rivals for the police market.

From the pictures, it looks like it has a fixed rear sight. Is this correct?

Yes, the Police Positive has a fixed rear sight.
