Looking for a buttstock pouch to carry a spare 5rnd mag

Like the title says I'm looking for a pouch that will strap on the buttstock of a rifle to carry a spare mag. This would be for bolt guns (or others like the BLR) with detachable mags.

Secondary purpose would be to go on the stock of singleshot or tube magazine rimfires to keep a handful of spare rounds with the rifle.

I've found some but they all had built in cheek rests and were designed for precision rifles with big scopes and they cost $50 or more. I'm looking for something less than $10. Cheap like the buttstock ammo carriers that have shell loops but with a pouch or two instead.

Thanks for the help.

Would one like that for the M1 carbine work?

Good thinking. I'll try the one I have but I don't think the one for the M1 Carbine will fit around the buttstock of the average hunting rifle. The one I have barely fits around the stock of a carbine.

Even if it won't fit as is a few plastic grommets and some paracord might make just what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the idea.

Anyone else?

Go here and search "buttstock pouch" They have several for AR15

Thanks for the idea. I may have to go with the AR style pouches. My problem with them is that they are designed to fit 30 round AR mags which means they are a lot bigger than I need. The little 4 or 5 round mag will be lost in all that space.

If you don't mind the closure flap being sideways you could use a Desantis #063 Elastic Ankle Wallet

pockets work well for a 5 rounder. I can't remember having to do a 'tactical' reload with a hunting rifle. Most hunts, I fire only one shot.

I have a Blackhawk cheekpad with pouch on one of my semi rifles (Ruger 10/22M converted to .17HMR) and pack four extra mags in the pouch. Works quite well. To get the proper comb height on the otherwise too low buttstock, I put foam padding under the top of the cheekpad.

You might want to give Spec-Ops a call. I have their "Ready Fire Mode" pouch on my SOCOM and it's awesome. Looks to me like it will hold two 5-round mags on your bolt gun and you can always put other accessories in there to make the mag ride farther forward. Plus, they're made right here in the USA which is nice, considering all the Chinese and even Vietnamese stuff floating around. Mine is very well made and I'd not hesitate to buy another: LINK (http://www.specopsbrand.com/)

Ok, it's $37 and change instead of $50, but that's still higher than I want to spend. Also, I'm not looking to add a cheek rest. I try to keep my scopes mounted appropriately low for the stock so I don't need to add a raised rest.

I think you missed the point. Does everything have to be tactical? Mags have been know to fall out of guns or be dropped. When that happens, they sometimes fall in the sand or mud or off a cliff or even become hopelessly lost in the leaves and brush. I'm looking to avoid having magazines rattling around in my pockets collecting lint, dust and who knows what and have a spare attached to the rifle. If there are two pouches or the single pouch is the correct size and shape I can store the primary mag in it on the way to and from the field.

That might be the best idea I've seen if the price isn't too high. I'm going to look into it.

ETA About $20. Not bad, but I'm going to keep looking for something cheaper. However, you've opened my eyes to new possibilities.

I think i might have found what you're looking for... http://www.galatiinternational.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=GIO&Product_Code=GL500 It has a pouch with a zipper on the inside closest to the stock and 5 ammo loops for bigger rounds.
