Add to all this the absolute refusal to do anything significant to secure our borders.

Can't justify the War on Terrorism forever if we don't have a few terrorist attacks now and then ...

At least the administration hasn't been idle.

Bush Asks Congress For $30 Billion To Help Fight War On Criticism

WASHINGTON, DC—Citing the need to safeguard "America's most vital institutions and politicians" against potentially devastating attacks, President Bush asked Congress to sign off Monday on a $30 billion funding package to help fight the ongoing War On Criticism.

"Sadly, the threat of criticism is still with us," Bush told members of Congress during a 2 p.m. televised address. "We thought we had defeated criticism with our successes in Afghanistan and Iraq. We thought we had struck at its very heart with the broad discretionary powers of the USA Patriot Act. And we thought that the ratings victory of Fox News, America's News Channel, might signal the beginning of a lasting peace with the media. Yet, despite all this, criticism abounds."...

PS: it's a parody...

ok, WHY doesn't Ridge's boss (whoever that might be) get off the stick and tell him to stop screwing around and do his job?

why doesn't Congress who passed this get off the stick and fix this.

(they took how long to pass patriot 1?)

who has a vested interest in the staus quo?

But did any of you actually read the entire article?

You might want to; especially the parts where it says the administration mandated the armed pilots training and allocated more funds to train said pilots. The TSA which, if you all recall was pushed for by Tom Daschle (that's right. Tom Daschle pushed for the Federalization of Airport Screeners because we all know that when you Federalize incompetince it will fix the problem. Oh and his wife made a fortune by this being done because she lobbies for the airlines which no longer had to pay for their own screeners)

Read the inconsistancy of the author, the contradictions and the interchanging of the words "Congress" and "Administration" and then get back to me.

Talk to you later,

DRC

There have been many new reports showing how this administration is against arming pilots. Why should we arm pilots? 9-11 part two is why.
Why hasn't this happened under this administration?
The airlines are against it, that's why it hasn't happened.

Without doubt bureaucrats would do everything possible to stop the effective arming of pilots. Entirely too much fascists dogma is at stake. If the federales can't protect the inhabitants of a cabin which is now considered the most secure real estate on the planet, how can they protect Joe and Martha Sixpack. The connection is simple and obvious. Guns in the cockpit must fail as a security measure.

A secondary issue is that civil liability airlines fear should a shooting occur, justified or accidental. Airlines qualify as the definition of "deep pockets". Removing guns from pilots is a way of eliminating a chance of litigation. I'll not comment on the morality of such a position. After all, we are talking law and morality here.

I will say it is clear to me there is one group of terrorists more dangerous, more feared, more loathed than Al Qaeda. The American Trial Lawyer is capable of bringing down entire industries, companies and even governments with a single lawsuit. Meanwhile law abiding citizens and taxpayers put of with decisions which will cost someone their life.

At some point we as a society will have to deal with the plague of terrorism through litigation.

True, however they're also capable of providing justice to the families of folks who die due to medical malpractice (150,000 deaths per year), or die as result of HMO's refusal to pay for needed treatments, or for victims of defective products like Firestone tires, etc...

The problems usually arise when a company rolls over without a fight like Kraft Foods is doing now, or which Smith and Wesson did under the Klintoon mis-Administration.
