Please help me find a WA FFL

As some of you may recall, I recently EAS'ed from the Marine Corps and moved to W. WA. Things were a bit tight at first, but now that the VA has approved my disability I have a bit of gun money. Not a lot, but some.

I want to get a couple surplus rifles before they are all gone, but I don't know of any FFl's here to do the transfer. I've had bad experiences with this in the past; who wants to pay a $30-50 transfer fee on a $70 rifle? Anyway, I would really appreciate any help. Still trying to get my footing being a civilian.

Well, I'm in North Bend. 30ish miles west of Seattle; the last town before the Pass into E. WA actually. Fall City, Carnation, and Issaquah are the nearest towns. Bellevue and Redmond are within easy driving distance and I go there every week anyway. Kirkland or Renton are also quite doable. For a really good deal I'd go to Tacoma or up into Snohomish Co ie Bothell, Woodinville etc.

I use Discount Gun Sales. They charge $35 for a transfer but they are reasonable people and might swing a deal for C&R gun and a military man. Also, if you search gunbroker.com for WA FFLs you will find a lot. Some only charge $20.

On a side note. You could apply for a C&R then buy all the surplus guns you want. Mine took under two weeks door to door (I don’t know if this is specific to WA state) and it is only $30 for five years...

I have been using Kent Jewelry and Loan in Kent on West Meeker. The owner advertises $20 transfers in the Little Nickle Ads. Good people to work with. Something to consider.

You might try Ben's Loan in Renton,WA.
They have a large selection of surplus firearms and surplus military ammo as well. I've personally bought over 10 guns in the last 10 years and been completely satisfied.

Join the Washington Arms Collectors- a big show in Puyallup and in Monroe ,usually every month.

I haven't looked for a while, but I'm pretty that GunBroker.com and AuctionArms.com both have a feature that lets you locate nearby FFLs by entering a zip code. Obviously, only those FFLs who have registered with their sites, but there are a ton of them. They also list how much each charges for transfers.

Once you find an FFL dealer in your local area...INTERVIEW them, before doing any business with them.

I currently found one on the whim, recommended by a board member, and my pistol is still there because the FFL guy is not that knowledgeable.:mad:

In the NE Bellevue area is a big range / gunshop named Wade's. I don't know the cost but the transfers might be reasonable.

If you join WAC as suggested above, you can take advantage of a member who does transfers for $10. I don't remember his name but can find out, if you are interested.

The WAC show this weekend is at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. The admission fee is applied to your first year's dues should you decide to join while at the show. Festivities start at 8:00, park across from the Blue Gate, and follow the crowd. There's plenty to choose from, and always some free literature at the 2nd Amendment Foundation table along the North wall towards the Saturday Only area.

I would also suggest you try Jason at Survival Arms. He is a very good guy & charges $25.00.

I'd stay away from Wade's unless $40 for a transfer is fine enough for you, also it's their policy to charge an extra 10% value fee on top of that for anything "new" to discourage internet sales transferred to their shop. I'm not sure if milsurp counts as new or old stock, used, etc. My cheapest recommendation would be Quantico Arms down in the Tacoma/Lakewood area, $20 flat and you're good to go.

Rainier Guns in Tac/Lakewood also only charges a flat $20. Anyone charging much more is raping you.

I hear about WAC a lot; how do I go about joining?

Fall City Firearms is gone. DOT is turning that location into a round-a-bout.

If you don't want to travel, and $20 is ok, use Alan of Cuff-Tec. He's located in the RIM and should do just fine for a transfer. However, I haven't had the best of luck buying through him, so I can't recommend him for outright purchases. And, you can't go wrong with the WAC shows.

In the long run, a good way to get cheap transfers is to establish relationships with a few FFLs. Even if you give a dealer a small amount of your business, like 10 or 20 guns in a couple months, he may be willing to cut you quite a bit of slack, or even transfer for free.
