I've been thinking about picking up a set of synthetic handguards for my SAR1.

I don't want rails or anything, just plain black KISS synthetic handguards like the wood ones that it came with.

Anyone know of a good set?

The standard KVAR made in USA ones are good, I have the NATO length stock and it is nice, it's on my Saiga.

Watch what you buy.
Some synthetic handguards will get hot and actually melt.
A friend had a problem with a set from Choate.

Might check out TAPCO, seems a lot of folks are using them with good results.

I havn't had any trouble with polymer handguards on my Saiga. I'm using the original saiga handguards for mine, but the K-var ones are nice as well.

J&G sales has the K-Var set, US made for the stamped receiver. These are very good. If you don't care about import versus domestic, then check out the East German pebble pattern ones.

Not to be picky, but I don't like the ribbed AK74 look of the K-var handguards and the Tapco ones are Galil style. I definately don't want the Choate ones if they melt.

I like these ones (http://www.riflestocks.com/AKAccessories.htm) from ACE. Anyone have a set? Are they any good?
