Recieved my Stag!

Hi everyone I recieved my Black Rifle yesterday, now I need to go and shoot it. I seriously thought about calling in sick today,so I could go and shoot the rifle but didn't, anyways where is a good place to buy mags for the rifle? I have two but need more thanks. I talked to a person at the local gunshop and he suggested I get H&K AR mags, he said they are the best mags you can get YEAH for $65.00 a mag they better be. I read here about some mags called p-mags what exactly are there? Thanks

Mags: P-mags are great as are USGI surplus mags--anything from Center ind., Okay, Colt, etc... The green followers are the newer ones. You can always update old mags with new springs and followers. I have never seen a reason to spend more than $15 on an AR mag.

Rumor has it that ammo will be increaseing on Sep 1 2007. I'd pick up a few thousand rounds as it is not uncommon to blow off 200-500+ 0n a range trip. Depending on your location get as many hi cap mags 20 & 30 as you can afford.

$65 for an AR mag? Ouch! You, dear lady, were <almost> taken to the proverbial cleaners. :) I don't mind paying a few extra bucks for brand name mags, but $65 is obscene. Bushmaster mags are as good as any and you can buy them direct from Bushmaster for $21 + shipping. :uhoh:

I prefer 20rnd mags as they're lighter and more convenient and 20rnds is plenty in a semi-auto rifle. I save the 30 rounders for those special times when I'm able to play with someone's full-auto gun.

Now go shoot that new gun and forget about the price of mags! :)

Yes charging handle and bolt had an excess of oil on them, so I took a rag and wiped it down, is it supposed to be that oily?

I bought some C-Products mags - no problems with them yet. Price was around 12 or so for some 20 rd and 30 rd. AIM Surplus has them for 12.95 with Magpul followers.

If you want a nice high capacity magazine the Beta C drums can hold 100 rounds for about $250.

Skip the HK mags and get USGI mags. Bravo Company sells good quality USGI mags for about $10-11/ea.

Green-tipped XM855 is what I've been using for practice ammo for a while now. It works, but it might not be the most accurate stuff in the world.

It's also got some steel in the bullet to increase penetration (armor piercing to some extent) so don't use it on steel targets.

I read here about some mags called p-mags what exactly are there? Magpul PMAGs - $14.95 each. (http://www.magpul.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=268) I've got 3 of these and like them a lot.

The H&K magazine is the steel high-reliability magazine from the SOPMOD program. They are nice magazines and a typical price for them is in the $50 range; but many people have had great luck with Magpul followers in a regular USGI magazine.

The PMAG is a polymer magazine built by Magpul. It is designed to be a replaceable, light-weight mag; but they appear to be fairly durable. At least one torture tester drove an armored Suburban over the PMAG and cracked the spine; but the mag continued to run. On the other hand, there were some problems with early batches and you can find discussion of those problems in the archives here.

It is hard to go wrong with the plain USGI mags though.

My magpuls have been fine, but just keep in mind, they've already had 2 recalls on them in the few months since they've been out...

Personally, I'd skip the HK mags and go with USGI magazines, but with magpul followers.

At this point in time I would recommend the Magpul PMAGs. I have a dozen of the 7/07 version and they work well in all three of my rifles.

I bought a Stag Model 3 about 6 weeks ago and am very pleased with it. For the time being I have a standard 3x-9xX40 scope on it. This is just to get me shooting it and am now deciding on whether I want to go to iron sights or a red dot scope. Everything that I have read about the AR's is to run them wet.

Concerning how "wet" the bolt and carrier should be--yes, they should be wet. There is some good data showing that the AR platform runs much better when wet. Dripping? no, but wet, yes.

USGI mags made by military contractors are the way to go.

PMAGs are good, but dont confuse them with ProMag brand. Everything ProMag makes is junk.
