I read the old post of how this gun was garbage and I heard that Remington had fixed the problems like replacing plastic parts with steel. I was wondering if that was true as I saw 3 today at Gander Mountain for 300.00 with the standard Bushnell scopes(they were mostly 30-06),hoping that if they got better I would get one. Main reason being I like the already mounted scopes.

i think the 770 or something like that is the product improved version of the 710. its not in their 07 lineup except for a limited edition or two. if you really want it, get it. only 300 bucks, and itll make a good beater woods gun if thats what your looking for. dont expect it to make it to the grand kids, but i should work alright for a few seasons.

The Remington 710 is the enrty-level budget lineup for Remington. If you are looking for a cheap gun to have fu with, take your money & customize a rimfire to match-grade (10/22). If you are looking for a quality big-bore (30-06 or .308) save until next year & get the Rem. 700 Sendero in bull-barrel with a good Nikon or Leupold scope... you won't be sorry!

Or, you could spend less money and buy the Mossberg 100ATR or 4x4 and get a better rifle based on the Howa 1500 design (and buy a better scope).

Im getting one of those that I saw at Gander as well, a closeout type for 265, with the scope. Can't beat that, especially for a beater.

They came out with the 770 (calling it the successor of the 710.) I'm looking at it in Rem's 2007 catalog. What's the deal with this gun?

but I have sighted in a couple for friends. My very opinionated view is this: Pick up a Stevens from a local dealer, without a scope, add Weaver mounts and a K4 scope. AFIK the Stevens trigger is adjustable as was the 110's before the accu trigger. ( internet instructions should abound ) I know I'd be content with such a set up.........Essex

Hey praharin... get a rifle-sling & quit whining... it's a rifle! Ever carry an M1... not too light either, but worth carrying. If he wants one that'll hit anything with confidence out to 500+ yards, how could he beat the R700? Well, an equal woudl be a Winchester Model 70 with a bull barrel. Want to lightern it up, get a fiberglass stock & fluted barrel. BFD

even with a sling, heavy is heavy. you dont need a heavy barrel to be accurate. i have an m700 mountain rifle, and its 3/4 moa for 2 shots in a row. then the barrel is too hot. i could quickly and easily put shots on target with it out to 300. beyond that, youre pushing the 7-08's capabilities, imho. for live targets you dont want suffering anyway. i can put a scope on an m16a4 and hit with confidense out to 500 yards, and thatll still be lighter than your sendero. 500 yards isnt too far out there. a sendero in '06 should take you to 1000 if you can handle it.

never carried an m1. done my time with a m249 (15#) an m240g (24#) m2hb (84# receiver and barrel) and a mk19 mod3 (72#). can you top 72 pounds unloaded (not including the tripod and cradle) with an m1? no such thing as a sling for the m2 or mk19.

just checked remington, you cant get a sendero in '06 anyway. i dont think you ever could get it in 308 either. its their long action magnum reciever. does come in 300 win mag though. besides, its a totally different class than the 710 and they shouldnt be mentioned in the same sentence.
