What is the going time frame to get your CCL It's been about 3 weeks since I submitted all the paperwork and did my fingerprints. I know the app. said 8 weeks I was just curious if some people got it quicker:D or later :( than 8 weeks. I live in North Haven Ct...... I am getting very impatient so impaient I already purchased 2 handguns (sig229 .40 and CZ p01)and 2000 rounds of ammo but, had to leave them at the store til I get my CCL:banghead::banghead::banghead:

It seems to take more than 8 weeks. From the folks I know, it's taken 2-3 weeks longer. I think the law states that they have to either license you or deny you by 8 weeks but they stretch it a bit.
Good news though, once you have your local permit, you can head to the DPS and get your state right away.
Sit tight and good luck.

I think it depends where you live. I got mine in about 4 weeks, others I know lately have been 3 weeks.
Ours are done through a resident state trooper, maybe the paperwork gets in faster?....some PDs seem to drag their feet.

Mine took 4 weeks, wife's ~6. My colleague has been waiting for 10+ wks (Salem). Bigger cities=longer time for permit from what I've seen & heard. It's not the state you are waiting on, it's the town. Your state permit can be picked-up the same day you get your town permit. Once you have it though your golden.:D

Depends on where you live.
In Hartford, there was a 12 week wait to submit your paperwork, and a further 12 week wait (4 weeks longer than the law permits) to get it approved.
Rural communities are much faster.
Good luck.

One more thing about CT:
Don't let your permit expire. If you do, you have to restart the application process, including taking the safety class again.
Also, don't screw around once you've got your temporary permit. You've only got a couple of weeks to get your state permit, or you go to the back of the line.

But isn't this against the law it says they have only 8 weeks why can they make you wait 24 weeks that's just ridiculous :fire:
The cost for obtaining a pistol permit is $35.00. The permit is good for a period of five years. The application paperwork may be obtained from a local police department, city or town hall or first selectman's office in the case of a local permit, or any state police barracks in the case of a state pistol permit. You are required to complete a handgun safety course prior to submitting the application. You will also be required to submit to a background investigation, criminal history check and submit fingerprints and photographs in connection with your application. The licensing statute also contains a “suitability clause” which provides that the issuing authority may deny such application, if it determines that the applicant is not a suitable person to possess or carry a pistol or revolver. The suitability clause applies both to the issuance of new permits and revocation of existing permits. Applicants must provide proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, voters registration card or U.S. Passport. Legal Alien Residents must provide Alien Registration numbers and 90-day proof of residency. Naturalized citizens require proof of citizenship.
The issuing authority has 8 weeks to review your application and approve or deny. A denial may be appealed to the Board of Firearm Permit Examiners as provide in C.G.S. Section 29-32.

CCL takes between 4 and 8 weeks... What is a CCL?
In PA you don't get a CCL or CCW, you get a "License to Carry a Firearm" and you only need that to carry a loaded firearm in your car or to carry concealed.
You are saying something about getting a CCL and then you need something else called a DPS? What is that and why do you need more than 1 license?

ohh didn't you hear? They have recently been getting over loaded after that whole rape and murder trajedy near New Haven tons of people are now applying. Gun sales in CT have been way up this year so you kinda picked a bad time lol. Fear not id say no more than six weeks and you will get your permit. My mom got hers within about four weeks but that was several months ago before everyone started applying.

CCW conceal carry weapon
It's the same thing

I think the law states that they have to either license you or deny you by 8 weeks but they stretch it a bit.The courts have ruled that the 8 week timeframe in the law is only a recommendation.
Oftentimes, how fast it goes through is relative to how quickly the FBI processes the prints. It was on the news the other night that the shear number of school bus driver background checks is sloqwing the system up so bad that some towns may not have enough bus drivers approved come September.

Actually not to get your thread off topic but I am not in any club, I shoot my handguns at chris's range in Guilford but it's getting too costly so I am considering the sportsmans club in Guilford as well. I got my pistol course cert from a guy there and liked the range setups and the idea that I can go when I want and not have pay so much I figure in a year ill prob be saving money. Like I said thou just call NHPD if you don't get it in the mail in 4 weeks, ask for records and the status and thel get moving or mayb thel go ahead and drive that stupid hummer to your house for a special delivery lol. Goodluck and good shootin fellow NH'er ;-)

Not really. You are actually waiting for the Selectmen or Trooper to send the paper work in to the FBI. The background check is fairly quick, couple weeks to a month. I know this from talking with people in the town offices. Sometimes they just hold the paper work until they get enough requests to send them off. That the pisser of the whole deal. Larger towns suffer more form this than the smaller rural areas.

My wife and I waited four months (16 weeks). The FBI and state checks were back, but the West Haven PD was sitting on our applications. I got the direct line for the detective in charge of the local checks, and I called him every week for a month.
I finally wrote a note to the Chief asking him to check it out. When the detective called me back, I told him I was going to have to talk to the BoFPE (appeals board) and then called us with the permits the next day.
It's pretty much a matter of how sympathetic your local PD is. The Connecticut Supreme Court shot down the 8 week requirement years ago.

uh, my wife got hers in about two full weeks (not including the trip to the State Police to get the permanent one - that took an additional day or two to make the drive out). :neener:
we live in a small town (gold coast area of Fairfield County) with a pro-RKBA jefe.
p.s. she did the digital fingerprint thing for state and FBI ... which likely sped up the process.

Connecticut has an arcane system under which you must first take a firearms safety course, then you go to your local PD and obtain a "temporary state permit." This allows you to carry anywhere in the state, but it's only of short duration. Once you have the temporary state permit (from the local PD), you then go to the state Department of Public Safety (DPS) to convert your new permit to a full-blown license to carry, good for five years.
If this sounds obstructionist, consider that it's really an improvment over when I first pursued this as a Connecticut resident. Until a few years ago, when you first went to the local PD what you got was a "city/town" permit, which allowed you to carry only within your own town. If, as I did, you lived in a town that had nowhere to shoot and no stores to which to go, it was basically a pretty useless piece of paper. The only thing it did was get the background check run so you could then go to the state and get the real license to carry.

At least you guys can GET a CCL/CCW. Us MD guys are jealous.
I would put up with the whole purchase permit system if I could use it to get a statewide CCW. We have to take a training course (pretty cheesy) already . . . .

where you can not take your pistol home until you get the permit?
Here in NV you can take your handgun home immediately but the ccw takes 3 months, but we have (sort of) open carry and car carry as well.

I called the PD yesterday asked for the records dept she said it's probably still under investigation with disgust in her voice:banghead: Well I said to her it's been almost 8 weeks and just wanted to know the status of it so she transers me to the detective dept. Officer was very nice on the phone I gave him my info and he went and checked, he came back and told me he's going to tranfser me to the chief of police's office and he thinks it's there. So the secretary answers the phone I tell her the info she checks and comes back and says it's under the final stages and to call back on Friday and they will have more info.
I think this means he has a stack of permits on his desk ready for signing off on and is waiting til the last minute:banghead:....Oh well I'm almost there, hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.
