I dropped a magazine in the dirt today, and have sand and dirt in it. I obviously don't want to use it again until I can clean it out, but I see no obvious way to disassemble it and I'm not sure I could get the spring re-compressed if I did figure it out.

Any hints??

First of all, we need to know what kind of magazine and for what make and model of firearm.

I found an old message in the newsgroups which detailed how to take my magazine apart - and it's now in pieces and being cleaned as we speak.

Thanks for replying!

Well PakWaan, as far as I know, they all come apart the same. - Looks like you already figured it out. One thing though, be careful and don't cut yourself or let the spring slip and pop out hitting you in the eye.

I almost got nailed about an hour ago when I tool apart an AK mag (30 round - they have LONG springs! ;) ) and let the floorplate slip out of my hand. - minor cut on left hand but the spring headed for my face! -Missed though! I always underestimate those pesky mags.

I probably out to file off any rough edges I guess.

Be careful out there!

Naturally everyone always wears their eyes when disassembling things with springs or working with caustic chemicals, right? ;)
