Out of curiosity, what do the THR'ers think about using a single-shot rifle for your SHTF or "truck" rifle? While ammo capacity & repeat-shot speed is a disadvantage, single-shots do have a few advantages...

Lighter weight
Shorter OAL
Fewer parts to break
Slightly more durable & reliable
Inexpensive to purchase & maintain
Interchangable calibers/barrels (T/C's & H&R's)

What do y'all think?

Thanks in advance...

My pickup rifle is an H&R/NEF Handi Rifle in .45-70. Just one shot at a time, but if you hit something, it goes down.

Sure why not I have a NEF Super Light Handi rifle in 243, paid $135 for and $30 for the scope, that would be a great Truck gun, too bad no truck and I live in the city and would not leave a gun in the car.

I didn't realize they were so affordable.

What do you think of their quality and accuracy?

Web site, please? Oh, nevermind, I'll do it myself.

Here's some info and a pic.

Here's how to make it better.

I'll bet my daughter would like one when she turns seven or so.

We must first ask ourselfs one question.

Does it have the stopping power to kill a truck in it's tracks during a charge?

Of course, even the most unimaginative soul on THR could think up a scenario where nothing short of an FAL with multiple mags. would be enough to stop a given situation. But getting back to the real world, a single shot rifle of adequate caliber, backed up by a good handgun, would probably be enough gun for practically any SHTF-scenario in the hands of a cool, practiced individual.

But how many of those individuals are there out there?

I own 4 single shot firearms:

NEF 12 ga

NEF .22 WMR "Ultra"

Bolt action .22

.50 cal muzzel loader

I have been very impressed with the quality of the NEF single shots, considering how "cheap" they are. My .22 WMR is the most accurate firearm I own.

For a SHTF situation, I think the best single shot would be an NEF 12 ga with one of those shell holder thingys on the stock. This is how I've got mine set up. You can reload pretty quick...
