Will a .30-06 stop a tornado?

I know, I know, bullet placement is far more important than cartridge size. But if it's hit in the old boiler room, will the venerable .30-06 stop a twister? Of course, I'm sure there will be magnum advocates who say that a .300 Win. Mag. is the LEAST you'd want for this type of dangerous game, but I'm bettin' my '06 can do the job.

What say you?

BTW, have you seen my strawberries?

While I haven't used a .30-06 on a tornado, I have used a .50BMG to stop an earthquake in its tracks.

Sanow/Marshall report that in actual shootings, the 230 gr. Federal Hydra Shok produced 96% one shot stops in el Nino shootings. Also works well on tsunamis, hurricanes, flash floods and (reportedly) goats.

No, falls under "acts of nature". :)

Same law applied to when we would use church keys and open beers upside down. Then put back in those six-pack rings and "accidently", leave behind while cruising. "Act of nature" -some kid thinks he has found a full six pack of beer, worked everytime...we laughed as we punched it to another spot.

If you'e ever been around a tornado, you know that it's a heartless beast. Therefore, the best shot placement for an '06 to kill a tornado is to shoot it in the eye*. Unless you're in Gaza**.

Probably because they were following a case of late evening curmudgeons, which were followed by a case of Midnight curmudgeons, which preceeded a severe bout of the 3 a.m. curmudgeons, and lastly just a whiff of the dawn curmudgeons...

Tornados are a pretty good airplane.

Panavia Tornado

The Tornado is a two-seat, all-weather, multi-role combat aircraft, in use with the armed forces of the UK, Germany, Italy and Saudi Arabia. It played an important part in the US/British Operation Desert Fox against Iraq.

There are several variants in service, such as the Tornado GR1B which provides the RAF's maritime attack capability, carrying up to four Sea Eagle sea-skimming anti-ship missiles. This aircraft can strike over 400 miles from its base, and launch its weapons at a stand-off distance of over 70 miles.

The Tornado Air Defence Variant (ADV) was developed for the UK as a long-range, long-endurance fighter interceptor aircraft. Its interception radar has a long-range search capability, allowing targets to be engaged at beyond visual range.

Tornado tech specs: Max speed: 800 knots. Length: 17.2m. Weight (empty): 14,500kg.

However, I think that with some luck, a .30-06 would handily knock one down. It just takes a bullet or two in the right place.

Depends on if it's a high plains tornado or just one of the little ole common grey tailed tornados.

Uh oh I'm feeling a tornado charge story coming on.

The day was dark and had an electric feeling to it. Bubba had been setting by his tornado bait (made to look and sound like a mobile home park) for several hours. Occasionally he'd give a short call on his night&hail tronado master III professional grade tornado caller. It made an eriee sound that no tornado could resist. Something like this "HEEEYYYYYYMABLEREYGITUPINTHAHOUSEFOREIHAUSETOWUPYAAANGIT MENOTHERBEER"

After the call he could hear the distinctive loping gate of a tornado not just any tornado but a high plains tornado also known as dusty spiny death.

When dusty broke the tree line it imediatley headed for the bait station at which time Bubba raised his 30-06 and killed the dusty spiny death "Grave Yard Dead" Dead right there.

He later died when he recieved the bill from the taxidermist.

An air pistol. A Webley Tempest.

Keith
July 5, 2003, 02:33 PM
Will an air pistol function in the low pressure environment inside of a tornado? And will it have the penetration necessary to go through all of the trailers swirling around and get to the vitals?
Or should I shoot before actually being sucked into the vortex? My CCW regs don't address defense against "Acts of God" and I don't want to get into trouble with some anti-gun DA...

I think I'll just stay out of Kansas...

QUOTATION: All schools, all colleges, have two great functions; to confer, and to conceal, valuable knowledge. The theological knowledge which they conceal cannot justly be regarded as less valuable than that which they reveal. That is, when a man is buying a basket of strawberries it can profit him to know that the bottom half of it is rotten.

It is from the Bogart picture "The Caine Mutiny." Bogie, a navy ship's captain, goes nuts, part of which involves his belief that his private stock of strawberries is being stolen. Great flick. Fred MacMurray is also good in it. Probably saw it 20 years ago. I'd guess it's mid to late 50's.
