Unless new legislation is passed by Congress and signed into law by the President, assault weapons will again flood our streets and neighborhoods and will again be used to inflict the maximum amount of damage to lives and property with a minimal amount of energy on the part of the criminal.

And

Despite the 1994 ban, gun manufacturers and dealers have found ways around the law and continue to produce and sell modified versions of the outlawed weapons.

Talking out of both sides of your mouth again, are you? If the manufactures have already "skirted the law" then why will the expiration of the law cause weapons to flood our streets again, after expiration? Idiots.

Flood the streets. Sure. The only thing flooding the streets is a torrent of reeking, steaming crap from the likes of these fear-mongering ignorami.

They've forgotten their own history. Blacks (and white Republicans) in the Reconstruction south were targeted for disarmament by racist local governments who often had the local police on their side, and the feds at that time stepped in to prevent their disarmament. Oh how times have changed.

The Message:
* Assault weapons are designed to kill the maximum number of people and do the greatest amount of damage in the minimum amount of time; there is no place for them in our Nation today.
* Despite the 1994 ban on many types of assault weapons, gun manufacturers and dealers have still managed to sell rapid fire guns and get them on the street; in the years 1998 through 2001, almost 20% of the law enforcement officers slain in the line of duty were killed by assault weapons.
* Rather than allowing the 1994 law to expire, we should be making it permanent and strengthening it consistent with Congress' original intent to prevent manufacturers, importers and sellers from flooding America's neighborhoods with large capacity ammunition feeding devices and military style firearms, such as AK-47s, UZIs and TEC-9s.
* We need to protect our neighborhoods, our law enforcement officers and our children from "Weapons of War."

I love that an organization supposedly dedicated to racial equality takes the position that the members of the race it supposedly represents are not competent to enjoy all of the privileges of national citizenship.

On the bright side, I have met very few black people under the age of forty who don't think that Jesse (Not my kids!) Jackson and the NAACP are FOS.

I thought they were dedicated to racial advancement. Otherwise, wouldn't they be called the National Association for Equality Regardless of Color instead of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People?

Where is this flood of assault weapons? If there was a flood, I ought to be able to pick up an AR for $40, instead of $900.

Oh, wait, I get it. It sounds evil and nefarious, like "bullet hose" or "weapon of war" or "cop killer bullet".

Unfortunately, the threat still exists: a study that came out earlier this month showed that almost 20% of the 211 law enforcement officers slain in the line of duty between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 2001 were killed with assault weapons.

Stalin would be proud. Never let facts stand in the way of a good story.
