So much for Bullseye preparation

I was really tight for time this evening. I had just enough .45acp for the bullseye match and 15 rounds for practice. I also only had Federal bulk .22lr that I use for plate matches, so I decided to take both pistols, practice with the Ruger MkII and shoot the match with the SA .45acp.
At practice all the .22 holes were in the black and I was having a hard time keeping a group with the .45acp. Since we shoot every Monday evening and I have 2 more Mondays after today to get the aggregate fired I decided to shoot the .22. I normally use Winchester Super-X as it groups as tight as CCI match in my pistol, so I figured I would shoot this as a throwaway practice match.
It was 101* at match time and the heat was making my heart thump hard.
I have been shooting bullseye for about a year and have had a goal of breaking 800. So far I have managed 797 twice and was struggling to shoot that.
Tonight, unprepared, I shot an 823! With crap ammo.
Last week I shot the .45acp part of the match and managed a 777. Next week I plan on shooting the .45acp as the centerfire match.

After finally breaking 800 I guess I will sleep with a smile tonight. It feels great when things finally come together.
I have been winning my falling plate matches for a few months now and this was the next big hurdle.

It was probably because your brain wasn't working as hard, you were going in not expecting much, so you just stepped up and shot!

AHH....yes..... the most important part of competition shooting.

Don't think.

It's just shooting.

Every once in a while I actually follow this sage advice and do really well.

Congrats on breaking 800.
