Two handed, Chow Yun Fat - style shooting this month.
Using your favorite pistol (or pistols), shoot five shots from each hand at the two tigers target. I recommend shooting with only one pistol at a time for safety reasons, but if you feel you can do it, go ahead and alternate shooting like your favorite action hero.
One-handed, unaided at 10 yards.
8 points for each hit on either tiger and 10 points for a hit that breaks the red dot on either tiger for a total possible of 100 points.
Stock class -- Any unscoped, stock pistol with barrel 6" or less
Improved class -- Pistol with any improvements to trigger, barrel, etc. or barrel longer than 6"
Scoped class - scoped pistol
El Rojo class -- holding a Garand one-handed in each hand at 10 yards
Please write your THR name, class, score, weapon type and caliber on the target.
Send in, e-mail or post your results here by July 31st.
Safe shooting and good luck!

Shouldn't it have been a redcoat target this month?
30 bonus points for hitting the whites of their eyes. Heh.

I get my own class!!! Now, question. Do you have to shoot two handed? If I recall correctly it is easier to shoot weakhanded by extended the gun straight out away from you and placing the stong hand on your chest. I would shoot with my strong hand two handed, but would rather go one handed on the weak hand. Let us know.

El Rojo - Apparently you are "in a class by yourself".:p
Sounds like the rule for this month is one-handed for all classes - even the El Rojo class.
At least it is only 10 yards this month!

Oh I missed that part. I saw the first part that said, "Two handed, Chow Yun Fat - style shooting this month." Then later on it says, "One-handed, unaided at 10 yards." Cool, I can do that.

To clear it up:
By "Two-handed, Chow Yun Fat-style", I mean this month we will shoot with both hands. Since we don't all have pairs of matching, chromed Desert Eagles like in the movies, and for safety reasons, we can shoot ONE pistol five times with each hand. If you feel adventurous, go ahead and rip-'em up with both barrels blazing. Please note if you do so when you report your scores.
For the El Rojo class -- since he previously tried to argue that his Garand is really just a "long pistol", I figured I would see how well he and others can do shooting their battle rifles one-handed on both the strong and weak side. For this class, feel free to also shoot any battle rifle (30 caliber and up) with a barrel more than 18". One-handed please. I will also allow 1894 lever-action shooting for the two-handed cowboys out there. Just like deer hunting - even though it's 30 caliber, M1 Carbines not allowed.
There is some strange shooting this month, so PLEASE BE EXTRA SAFE and shoot well!

10 points for breaking the larger red dot. I'll use the smaller red dot as the "X" for tie-breakers.

Wow I thought you were joking. There really is a class named in my dishonor! I am very humbled by this.
ReadyontheRight
July 6, 2003, 07:17 PM
El Rojo -- It's definitely not meant to dishonor...maybe just to poke a little fun. Also -- we always see two-fisted shooting in the movies with both pistols and rifles. When you think of the El Rojo class -- think of Rooster Cogburn shooting at Robert Duvall and his henchment two-handed from his horse and holding the reins in his teeth (please don't try this at home - especially with the eyepatch). "Fill your hand you Son of a %$&%#!".
I'm actually looking forward to trying some one-handed rifle shooting. I'm going with the Marlin 30-30 and not the Garand though.

Can we do pistols of two different classes?
I was planning on using my buckmark in my left hand and super redhawk in the right, but I realized my SRH would be "improved".
Maybe I'll just have to buy some ammo for the sig.

July 6, 2003, 11:44 PM
Can we do pistols of two different classes?
If you do, please score yourself in the improved class. Or just shoot one target with your stock pistol - 5 times in each hand - and one target with your improved pistol - 5 times with each hand.

I just found this site not long ago. From the looks of the usernames I would venture to say a lot of TFL members came over. As for this month's postal match, it looks to me like you are going to have several ties with perfect scores. How are you going to use the little red dot when one shot will wipe it out? I sure would hate to be doing the scoring on this one.

Ankeny -- Welcome to THR. It's a great place! Please start shooting in our little mail in matches. It's a hoot!
As for this month's postal match, it looks to me like you are going to have several ties with perfect scores.
That's been said before, but we've only had FOUR perfect scores out of 42 shooters in 6 events. I'm assuming that one-handed, standing, unaided with both left and right hand will make it somewhat difficult. I personally don't get a whole lot of practice shooting one-handed NRA Bullseye style with my off-hand, and I don't know a lot of folks who can shoot 10 shots in a row into a quarter-sized circle at 10 yards.
Maybe we'll have a bunch of 100-10x shooters this month, but they are still competing with DeputyVaughn for the YTD title.
How are you going to use the little red dot when one shot will wipe it out? I sure would hate to be doing the scoring on this one.
Everyone scores their own target. Questionable line breaks or two shots in the same hole go to the shooter.

July 9, 2003, 08:22 PM
I too used to think that these targets would be hard to score. I thought 20 shots at that RPG soldier would be hard to distinguish. I only hit him 7 times and I think the high score was like 9. You might be surprised. Go try it out.

What about mg's that shoot pistol caliber ammo? I just watched "Where Eagles Dare" with Clint Eastwood and he did that "Last Man Standing" 2-gun thing only with German grease-gun type MG's, which I believe ran on 9mm Luger.
I would pay $5 to see someone empty both clips two handed like that.

i shot the thing 5 rounds right hand only and 5 rounds left hand only, one tiger per hand
but not simultaneously

did i do it right?
:D
if so i got a gullywampin' 42 with 4 - 8s and a 10 - stock bhp 9mm - lead round nose
the rest went between their legs
i'll post it here when i have time
i might try one scoped pistol if i ever get my mk II back together again...

I think you did it correctly. At least, that is how I did it as well. I don't think shooting at each of the targets with a different hand is required by the rules as written but I did it that way too.
Assuming I am scoring things correctly I got:
Stock class (SA 1911 9mm) = 66pts
Improved class (Colt S70 1911 9mm) = 78pts
I'm not a bullseye shooter and almost never shoot one-handed. Weak hand was tough but I actually scored better weak hand than strong hand.

ReadyontheRight:
I didn't mean you will have lots of guys shooting 100-10X, I mean you might have several guys shooting 100 points and it could be tough breaking ties with the X blown away.
If a guy or gal shoots a .45, they won't need to shoot a quarter sized group to get 100 points. They will only need to shoot a 1.45 inch group at ten yards. If enough really good shooters participate, there should be a tie at 100 points.

I shot the tigers this morning.
Stock Class-Manurhin (Walther) PP .32 ACP.
Five in the tiger with the right hand for 40 points, two in with the left for a total of 56.
Scoped Class-Ruger Mark II with Tasco Red Dot. Four in the tiger with the right hand with two breaking into the big red circle for a total of 44.
Improved Class-Colt Combat Commander 9mm with trigger work, Millet sights and improved grip safety installed. I got one in the tiger with my right hand and three in with my left for a total of 32.
I had two shots touching on the first tiger but they were just to the right of the left leg!
I can't post pics of the targets because my scanner and computer aren't speaking to each other.

I shot my target today. I also printed one for my wife to shoot and also shot El RoJo class with my AK-47(not sure if it's allowed or official). I'll attempt to post my target and others if I can get the attachment feature to work for me. As for my pistol entry. With my Witness I scored a 76 w/2X's.

I shot the tigers last week. Shot them with my Premeir II .45 cold as the first part of a practice session. I was/am very pleased.
The score with the Baer is 94-3X with the three hits out of the ten ring coming from the left hand. I honestly thought I could keep all 10 shots in the 10 ring but this is a tougher target than I thought.
A tip of the hat to the guy/gal who can shoot 100 on this beast. I'll post pics when I get the target scanned.

Shot two targets yesterday.
Stock class w/Buckmark 4"bbl in left hand and sig 229 .40 in right. Both barrels blazing netted me a 32. Hmmm, not like in the movies.
Then I did improved class w/Buckmark in left hand and Super redhawk 7.5"bbl in right. Alternated one shot from each. 78 w/1x.
Shot placement is better than volume! Made me realize that I need to practice shooting the sig w/ one hand. No scanner, I'll send them in.

Well in that case I shot a 100-10X with my Glock 27 and the same with my Garand in the El Rojo class.
Just kidding. It is 809 PM on the west coast and I still haven't shot the match. I had to go eat with the in-laws and daddy in law was paying. So yes, I am either going to be shooting with my car headlights and/or my Streamlight Stinger. Yes I am hardcore. I will get back to yall in about an hour or so.
I might not shoot the El Rojo class though. I don't feel like cleaning an extra gun.

I am finished. I shot my Glock 27 and yes, the M1 Garand. Here are the scores.

Glock 27, 40 S&W
El Rojo
El Rojo Class
42/100 (4-8's, 1-10)
M1 Garand, .30-06 Springfield
At first I thought there was no way in heck I was going to shoot in the El Rojo class. I seriously thought I was going to hurt myself. I just got into my best prone shooting stance and kept my other hand down at my elbow. I didn't do too bad and I am still alive.
An intersting side note. It was pretty darn close to 9 PM (nothing like waiting until the last second) when I finished and I was out in the sticks/oilfields here by Taft using my car high beams to illuminate the target. I have a homemade target stand and I use a half human silloute to put my Postal Match targets on. I had that standing by the back door of the car as I was cleaning up. I come from the front of the car and turn that way and see this half silloute there and about crapped my pants. Did I draw my Glock and double dap it? No, just about crapped my pants. Not very tactical of me.
Thanks again ROTR. I look forward to getting the results.

Hey DeputyVaugh. I was just looking at your targets above and I think you should have counted a few of those shots that you didn't. They looked like they got pretty darn close to breaking the line. I zoomed in with my photoshop program and it looked like the black from the bullet broke the line on at least one of your shots on the regular target and for sure on your AK target. I would at least make your regular target a score of a 64 if not a 72 and I believe your AK target should be a 48. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Plus I had to shoulder my M1 Garand and just shoot with one hand. There is absolutely no way I could have shot it one handed extended and not hurt myself or shoot the ground and bounce a bullet over my backstop or ruin my target stand.
Well nevermind on your Wife's Rossi target since I saw you were just posting it for fun just like my old Garand handgun target from a few months back. However, I suggest your rifle target be changed to a 48.

For accurate scoring of "line touchers", I recommend the Rig EZE-SCORER. This is what most bullseye shooters use. They are for sale in the latest Sportsman's Shooter's Guide on p.59 for $20 for the set of them. http://www.sportsmansguide.com It is an aluminum cone the exact dia. of a given bullet with a magnifying glass surrounding it. I've used them for years. Quantrill

Interesting Month! Welcome Mrs. Deputy Vaughn!
PLEASE TELL ME YOUR SCORE IF YOU MAILED IT IN AND I WILL UPDATE THE SCORING!
That darn cat is hard to hit. I'm glad he wasn't charging at us like last month's rhinos.
Quantrill wins in the Stock Class with an 84 from his High Standard Supermatic Citation.
Ankeny takes Improved class (I had to move it over from Stock. A Les Baer is definitely "improved") and overall high score with a 94 - 3x from his Baer Premier II in .45 ACP. Nice shooting!
Kimma wins Scoped class shooting a 76 from his S&W 686+ w/ ultra dot red dot scope in .38 Special.
DeputyVaughn wins the El Rojo class shooting an AK47 one-handed from each hand to score a 48.
It looks like the evil assault rifle has a decided advantage shooting one-handed over the old battle horse M1 Garand. I'll still take my Garand any day -- even if I have to fight one-handed (come back and fight -- it's only a flesh wound!). I really wanted to shoot in the El Rojo Class, but I had nowhere I could shoot a rifle at 10 yards.
Nice unorthadox shooting this month! We may have to bring back the 2-fisted contest with a better target.
