I have a Yugo SKS. It was made in 1988. Does anyone know how to find out the import date? I have been thinking about a T-6 stock for it but not sure if I can legally do it or not.

Thanks

I don't think any were imported before '89. Weren't they still communist then? Besides, why would they surplus a rifle that they just made a year before?

The Import date will most definately be after 1989' which is the date that you are probably concered with. The short answer is no, you cannot just replace the stock with the T-6, it will not be legal. Good news, that doesn't matter if you follow the 10 or less imported parts rules of which the Yugo SKS is included.

Basically, if you change enough parts to where there are 10 or less imported parts, you have a legally modified Yugo SKS. Here's how to do it...

T-6 stock - counts as 3 parts
TAPCO gas piston and OP rod - 2 parts
US made Magazine (TAPCO makes a 20 rounder) - 3 parts
Remove Bayonet and perhaps the grenade launcher

check the SKS legal section to get all sorts of information on what would be required and why. Good luck!

thats mostly what I was looking for I guess. I am not going to the trouble to change out perfectly good parts just for that sake of blowing money. I have seen the T-6 in pics and it looked sharp. Maybe I will just stain the stock black to have my EBR.

Thanks
