The local gun store has 2 Enfields. One has a sliding rear sight mounted in front of the receiver and the other has a ghost ring rear sight mounted on the back of the receiver. What's the difference between the 2 rifles? Different models?

I would guess the one with the barrel mounted sight is a No 1 mk III* and the one with the receiver sight is a No 4 mk 1. Simply because those are the two most common Enfields on the market at the moment. They are both similar actions in .303 caliber, with the main differences between the No 1 and the No 4 being the rear sights, front sights, and bayonet attachment points. The No 1 mk III and mk III* differ in the mk III has a magazine cutoff on the right side of the action whereas the III* does not. I *believe* the mk III also has volley sights.
