Keep NIB 1300 Defender or Trade for an 870?

That's the question.

I've searched back through the shotgun forum hear and found some great info. We were lucky enough to win a NIB 1300 Defender at the D.U. dinner last year. I haven't shot it yet as I've been concentrating on getting the CHL issued and getting proficient with my carry gun. Goals for the shotgun are home defense and participation in defensive shotgun courses. I can't imagine mods more than a light, side saddle shell holder, sling, and possibly sights.

Which ever way I go I need to get it out to the range and start patterning per the Patterning 101 Sticky :)

If you advocate a trade, which 870 to trade for?

I appreciate any input you can provide.

Trade? A gun you won (didn't have to pay for)? ???? You can get a decent 870 for $200-$300. Does your 1300 have the 8 round magazine? If you want an 870 with an 8 round mag, you'll have to add a couple hundred to that. The 1300 is a great gun, smooth action. There's not much reason to trade it for an 870 unless you would just rather have one.

Keep it- and SHOOT it. A lot. It's a fine shotgun, and the price was definitely right. You can do anything to/with it you need to to make it whatever you want- full blown tacticool or a hardcore no nonsense blaster. But the most important thing is to make YOURSELF the best 1300 shooter you can be. BA/UU/R. And

Stay Safe,

Winchester no longer makes the 1300. Keep it. It's not only a great and very practical gun, it'll be a collector's item in the near future if it is not already (and yes, I have seen NIB prices up around $500 for them recently)!

Thanks for the great input. I will definitely keep it and begin an organized campaign of BA/UU/R. :)
