Hi- I did a search, and the only thread I found regarding learning to be a gunsmith (specifically via correspondence) was from 2003.

So, I thought that there may have been changes in the intervening 4 years. What experience do people have with courses from different sources? Is AGI still considered good?

I will say up front that I don't expect to make a living as a gunsmith. My intent in the short term (five years or so) is only to learn more about the fire arms I own. After that... I don't know.

If you use the search this forum feature & enter gunsmith school you will get some revalent threads

I personally don't buy from them any longer but ebay has lots of AGI tapes for sale. You might buy the one for a gun you own and see how it works out before you buy the whole package. You might find a gunsmith that might give you a little training in exchange for work or for a few bucks, the AGI course could run you several thousand dollars you could offer the gunsmith that money and get access to his machines and hands on training. Lots of mights but it can't hurt to ask. Good luck

The video courses are OK and interesting if you want to work on (and maybe wreck) your own guns. But they won't teach you enough to go into business as a gunsmith. It may be a bit of a reach, but would you want to have heart surgery done by some guy who watched a video tape?
