After buying 1000 once fired .223 brass I sat down to
remove the crimp with a small primer reamer from Lyman.
I had been told that this would work well."just sit in front of the T.V.
piece of cake " its not for me !
I have now purchased a Dillon pocket swager for $80.00
Wow, does it work well !
I have seen postings where people say they use their pocket
knife, I don't get it!
Well, I now have a great new tool I was going to try the RCBS version
but the guy who owns the shop recommended the Dillon
I like everything but the price.

I screwed around with several rigs before I found a small metal ball cutter attachment that fits my dremel tool. Even after using it I still have to hand ream a couple of turns with a case with a deburring tool.

I picked up the RCBS swager used for $15. Works great, I check all my .223 cases on it. Sure beats doing it by hand like I used to. I hear the Dillon tool is better, but I'll stick with spending only $15 and be happy.

If you plan on using military brass a lot I would go for the Dillon. Yeah its expensive but it is soooo worth it. Besides, you can afford it on that LT pay....lol

I've just started using the RCBS swager on my single stage. I'm very unhappy with the fact I have to pull like hell to get the brass off the swaging floorplate. I don't think I use too much pressure, even with light pressure they stick and require a lot of force to remove from the plate.
How hard is it to remove the brass from the Dillon tool?

On the Dillon it slides right off the rod.
I have not used the RCBS, but I can assure you that if you buy the Dillon tool you will love it except for the price
P.S. This is the only "blue tool" I own, So I don't believe I have any bias.
I buy whatever I like for the job.

I have used the RCBS tool over 25 years when needed on small or large primer pockets with no trouble.

I have both units, RCBS and dillon and prefer the dillon do to it's speed. I found by mounting the dillon swager on an angle over hanging the bench I could blast through the cases at a faster pace by just letting the finished cases drop into a box below.

The big problem I had was removing the primer crimps from berdan cases but I found RCBS has a tool that works for that.
Adventurer_96,
Unless I misunderstood you it sounds like your missing a piece to your RCBS swager, when I return the handle to the end of its travel the brass comes right off do to the metal cup that the swager retracts into. The dillon swager has a camming type set up and the swager piston goes in and comes out very easy. I have found that you do have to sort the cases and set the depth by case headstamp, but that's no problem I do that anyways.

OK, gents, I figured out what the problem was, thanks for the excellent replies & pics. donttellthewife, your Dillon setup looks well thought out.
I'm using an old Herter's single stage press. I have a shellplate adatper so I can use standard RCBS etc. shellholders, but it raises the shellplate up a fair amount off the top of the press's ram. When I swage a case, the shell kicker (or whatever you call it) that you've got in the picture above doesn't move down anywhere, since it's raised up by the shellplate adapter.
So, today I was trying to figure out how to make a plate that I could put under the shell and then it would kick it up, by being pushed up when it reaches the bottom of the press stroke. Then, I read the directions, which didn't have a picture of that operation, and I realized that in fact this case "kicker" was supposed to do that, but couldn't due to the shellplate adapter.
To make a long story longer, it comes down to two things - Herter's presses w/shellplate adapters don't work w/the RCBS setup. And, I need to pick whether I want to buy a Rockchucker or a Dillon tool.
Thoughts?
