.22 caliber 870

Well, sort of... :D Just found a Remington Fieldmaster Model 572 in a gunshop at a "steal me" price. It's resting comfortably in the safe. :)
Shot it in the back yard a bit with CB caps - no real range report yet. The fire controls with the exception of the loading gate are in the same place as an 870. I'm up on the "understudy" aspects of a .22 for a bolt action rifle, but this is the first time I've seen a .22 version of a shotgun.
If you are a dedicated pump gunner, check out the Taurus or other .22 pumps. For more realism, this M572 comes very close to the fabled 870 for getting your "chops" down pat.
Happy 4th!

Got me...just had to look :p
Awaiting the "pattern test for .22 870" thread :D
Is this the one capable of shooting short, long and long rifle ammo?

Been a while since I've seen one.
Remington had the idea of different firearms with the same controls, thus the slide action centerfires and autos like the 760 and 742. Not a bad idea, really.
Enjoy, and BA/UU/R. There's a world of fun out there, and maybe a little nostalgia for the boy still inside...

Dave, I'm a sucker for inexpensive .22s. Must be 43 going on 16. :D
re1973, yes. This one cheerfully takes all sizes and shoots CB caps nicely.
I swabbed the bore with Breakfree using some weed wacker line and ran 15 rounds of CB Longs and Shorts down range. Groups at 15y were roughly 1.5 inches.

I'll wager the usual flagon of mead, Al, a few hundred more rounds will see those groups shrink. 22s tend to shoot best when shot frequently. Something about the outside lube and the bore. AR had an article on this a decade or so ago.
The old Marlin BA that was Mom's practice rifle ran dime sized groups at 50 yards when I mounted a scope on it. Thousands of rounds had been through that thing and it was settled in the bedding nicely.
Al, I thought I had the right gun in mind. I recall a friend had one, a 742 as Dave mentioned and of course an 870. He liked the same MOA for the 3. Real nice wood and blue on all 3 also. That 22 he had very accurate, many a squirrel taken.
More fun to grow younger-than older :D

I have a 572 BDL that I bought 3 or 4 years ago. It was fun for a while, but loading it became a PITA.
